The history of the St. Cloud Army National Guard is long and proud. The unit was originally organized on December 12, 1862, as the 2nd Minnesota Infantry Regiment. It served in the Union army during the American Civil War, fighting in all major campaigns including Gettysburg and Vicksburg. In 1865, the regiment was disbanded and its members were transferred to other units. However, the spirit of service never died and on November 1st, 1923, under orders from then-Secretary of War Harry S. Truman, the 2nd Minnesota Infantry Regiment again was reorganized as a battalion infantry regiment effective that day. The brigade headquarters and two battalions were redesignated as 3rd Brigade Combat Team (3MBT) at Fort Snelling Barracks in Minneapolis; these brigades served concurrently with 1st Brigade Combat Team (1BCT) headquartered at Camp Beattie until September 30th, 1933 when all 3BGTS Detachment(s) were redesignated as 1st Brigade Combat Team (1BCT) at Fort Snelling Barracks effective October 1st -Disbanding on December 15th 1933 The unit colors are: blue with white stars on each shoulder patch

St. Cloud, Minnesota is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota that was founded on December 12, 1845 by Danish immigrants. The population was 70,611 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hennepin County and home to the University of St. Cloud (USC). The area around present-day St Cloud was first settled by Fennimore Islanders in what is now Hudson Bay Company territory during the 17th century. On January 1, 1845, US citizens James Gamble and John Auld purchased 640 acres (2 km²) of land east of present-day St Cloud from Nicholas Eastman for $1,000 cash and four horses. This land would later become known as Gamble's Prairie before it became part of Hennepin County on November 15, 1855. On February 2, 1846, Minneapolis was established as a city and Saint Anthony Falls became its first source of drinking water after being diverted from an artificial stream near Upper Canada Creek in Winnipeg Township.(5) By 1870 Stacy Township had been organized adjacent to Minneapolis with settlers coming from Dodge City and other nearby townships.(7) In 1870–71 United States surveyor George Stephenson surveyed section 10A lying northwest of what is now downtown Saint Cloud.(8) This parcel included most or all of what is now downtown SaintCloud except for some blocks east of First Avenue which were annexed by Minneapolis in 1898.) Downtown SaintCloud was established on May 25, 1911 when construction began on the new University Hospital(9), one block south of First Avenue between Nicollet Mall and Cedar Street (). Construction continued until 1915 when it stopped due to lack funding. In 1916–17 an addition to University Hospital named Park Place opened west of Constitution Avenue just north of Nicollet Mall with 500 beds.(10) The hospital would eventually be renamed Mayo Clinic after Rochester Mayo General Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota which had opened earlier that year(11). The university's main building located south off First Ave between Nicollet Mall and Cedar Street still stands today although much has been replaced since its establishment including newer buildings like Minnesotans History Museum across First Ave also remains standing but closed
