In the early 1900s, the Coast Guard was established in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. The first Coast Guard station in Minneapolis opened in 1903 and by 1912, there were four stations across the Twin Cities area. St. Louis Park is a city in Minnesota, United States. The population was 51,362 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in the Stearns County metropolitan area and one of two cities in that county. The other city is Minneapolis-Mankato. Saint Louis Park is home to three colleges: Saint Louis University, Hennepin County Community College, andRamsey Technical Institute. The first European settlement in what became Minnesota was by French traders from Quebec in 1762. They named their new village after a church near Paris called Notre Dame de la Garde (“Our Lady of the Fortress”). Jean Baptiste Veilleux founded a fur trading post here in 1815 and this became known as “St. Paul’s Fort” because it served as the eastern terminus of a major road eastward from Montreal across Canada to Detroit. In 1824, Dakota Indians under Chief Red Cloud attacked St. Paul’s Fort but were eventually successful in driving out the invaders and taking over most of present-dayMinnesota; only part of present-day St.Paul remained under Indian control until 1862 when white settlers began moving into what was then Dakota Territory (now North Dakota) on land acquired from them via treaties signed with Great Britain during the Dakota Wars (1858–1863). In 1857, General James Kossuth successfully defended Saint Louis Park against an attack by Native Americans led by Sitting Bull; Kossuth was later recognized as America’s initial leader during its brief period of national awakening following emancipation (1860–1876). On July 5, 1861, Ulysses S Grant visited St.Louis Park for meetings with leaders of both pro-Union factions at which he proposed plans for organizing all territories east of Missouri into a single Union territory subject to his direct control—an idea immediately accepted by both pro-Unionists and Confederate sympathizers within Republican Party circles throughout much of Northern America as well as among some Democrats who wanted to maintain some degree of local autonomy within newly Freedom State created following American Civil War victory over Southern forces—a concept now known officially as Reconstructionism (see also Kansas City Union Station)). This plan would not come about until much later when Republicans abandoned it because they realized that they could not win popular support nationally while simultaneously holding power inside their own New York-based party organization structure (Grant had been elected president thanks largely to his role leading Reconstructionist policies within his own administration). Saint Louis Park grew rapidly due to its location near Mankato on Lake Superior where various mills operated until company closings during World War II caused significant unemployment among workers engaged in such activities as lumbering, fishing, farming and manufacturing; however these economic setbacks did not prevent Saint Louis Park from becoming one of the wealthiest cities in America due primarily to its status as an educational center with numerous private schools including Hennepin County Community College which opened its doors on November 1, 1910 followed shortly thereafter by Ramsey Technical Institute; furthermore many professional athletes have played or coached here including NFL players Ray Lewis and Drew Brees amongst others while entertainers like Tom Jones,[1] Lou Reed[2], Neil Young[3],[4],[5],[6],[7][8][9] have all made hitsville visits here including headlining shows at Masonic Temple Placeclubopening night October 25th 1977 headlined integumentary US heavyweights world champion boxer Frazier Maidstone vs Freddie Mitchell
In the early 1800s, a group of farmers in St. Louis Park began to settle in what is now the city of Minneapolis. They started out trading goods with the natives and eventually built their own homes and businesses. The town slowly grew but never quite reached the level of popularity enjoyed by its neighbors to the south. In 1876, however, a small group of investors founded the city of Minneapolis as a result of an Act of Congress which allocated land in what is now Minneapolis for that purpose. The new city quickly became a major center for commerce and culture, thanks to its location on the Mississippi River. By 1908, St.Louis Park had become so dominant that it was given its own name – “The City on the Lake” – although it retains some ties to Minneapolis today.
