The coffee that began to be brewed in St. Peter, Minnesota in the 1880s was a blend of two different origins. One origin was Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, and the other was Colombian Supremo. The first high-quality coffee beans were roasted by local roasters, such as David Strauss, who would roast them on their family-owned farmstead extension near town. From there, the coffee would go through various hands before it reached its final destination-the grocery store shelf. In the late 1800s, when refrigeration became available throughout the United States, a new type of coffee started to become popular-coffee with ice cream added to it. This new flavor trend would continue until shortly after World War II when all kinds of flavors were added to coffee without regard for taste or tradition. The purpose of this development was to provide an attractive retail environment for people who spent their days working or shopping in central Minneapolis. St. Peter is a small town in northern Minnesota, located in the Plymouth County region. The population was 569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area and is adjacent to Saint Paul, Minnesota's largest city. The community was platted in 1878 by surveyor John Doherty and named for Saint Peter, who had been killed during a Crusade in Jerusalem. Doherty's son, James Doherty, donated land to the town and construction began on what would become St. Peters' primary school and Methodist church in 1879. The first post office was established in 1880, and by 1888 the village had a fire station, grocery store, blacksmith shop, public library (now called the Ramsey Library), two schools (grades 1-4), one Protestant church (First Congregational), three general stores ( bought from A&P Company) and five residences. In 1926 St. Peter merged with neighboring Eden Prairie to form what is now Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area
St. Peter's Lutheran Church was built in 1892 and is the oldest church in St. Peter Township. The present building, which overlooks the township's square, was constructed in 1955.
