The history of the Vadnais Heights Air Force Base begins in World War II. The base was founded on November 16, 1942, when the United StatesAAF activated its first airfield at Vadnais Heights. It served as a training and testing ground for American servicemen during the war. In 1945, the United StatesAAF moved to its present location at Vadnais Heights AFB and began operations as an operational command center for Allied forces in Europe. The base helped contribute to victory in Europe during the war. In 1946, the United StatesAAFactivated Daystrom AFB in Minnesota as a subordinate command of VADNAIS HEIGHTS AFB. daystrom served as an adjunct air force installation until it was disbanded on October 1, 1970. After World War II ended, America's military installations were gradually downsized or closed throughout most of the late 1940s and early 1950s due to budget constraints. However, one remnant of America's wartime aerial bombardment capabilities – VADNAIS HEIGHTS AIR FORCE BASE – remained active under new management through 1949 until it was finally closed on July 15, 1951 due to budgetary reasons once again after years of neglect by both USAAF commanders and Congressmen alike. The closure of VADNAIS HEIGHTS AFB had a profound impact on local aviation because it resulted in a lack of available airspace for civil aviation operations over much of westernMinnesota which led to reduced travel times between cities and rural areas that relied heavily upon air service from airports located within easy reach by car or bus from Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport (MSP). Additionally, many small businesses which depended upon passenger traffic at MSP found themselves unable to continue doing business without transport connections other than thoseprovided by commercial airlines operating out of larger airports with more comprehensive facilities that could accommodate large aircraft such as Boeing 747s and Douglas DC-8s operated by carriers such as Northwest Airlines and American Airlines; these larger airports had been built following World War II when bombers were no longer needed on battlefields overseas but instead were used for general cargo and passengers services providing access not only from major metropolitan areas but also from smaller towns near major airports across North America; these larger airports were able to accommodate jetliners like Boeing 747s with their massive runways capable accommodating thousands or even millions passengers per hour while smaller airports lacked this capability making them less practical for transiting large amounts of freight or passengers departing/arriving at MSP each day On September 8th 1951 President Harry Truman declared Public Law 91-648 which established USAF DAYSTOM AFB AS A SUBSIDIARY COMMANDSHIP OFVADNIS HILLS ABBEY AFTER THE CLOSURE OFVADNIS HEIGHTS AFFAIRS Despite protests from airline executives who argued that STL should become LGA rather than divert resources away from their key airport they eventually agreed to allowDAYSTOM AFB TO OPERATE AS AN ACCOUNTING FACILITY FOR STL UNDER THE NAME "LITTLE ROCK AVIATION CORPORATION". This change allowed STL residents accessto international flights provided by DAYSTOM ADSJ WITH PUSHBACK TIME OF TWO HOURS FROM MSP WHILE MAKING SEAplanesavailable ONLY TO ACROSS IOWA PROVINCE FROM STP AND WASHINGTON D C . AT THIS POINT IN TIME STL WAS CONSIDERED TO BE A MEDIUM CITY BY MILITARY AGENCIES WITH ABOUT 250 AIRPORTS INTERESTING OVER 350 MILLION PEOPLE WHO TRAVEL THROUGH THEIR AREAS EVERYDAY

The Vadnais Heights, Minnesota Air Force Base has been a major airbase in the United States for over sixty years. It is home to the 9th Air Force and the 436th Airlift Wing. The base also contains many other important military facilities including an armory, housing units for enlisted personnel, a naval shipyard, a research center and more.
Vadnais Heights is a census-designated place in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The name Vadnais Heights was given to the community by John Vadnais, an early settler and effective president of the town of Alexandria in 1851. In 1880, Tolliver's Grove near what is now North Seventh Street and East Second Avenue in Vadnais Heights was also named after John Tolliver. In 1905, resident Jens Bjorklund donated land for a public school in Vadnais Heights. The first school building was completed in 1907 and served as the community's only high school until 1951 when it merged with nearby Mille Lacs School District #1 to form Ramsey County High School #2. According to the 2000 U.S. Census there were 1,827 people living in Vadnais Heights; 924 households and 554 families residing alone; and 451 housing units at an average density of . There were 912 households out of which 36% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61% were married couples living together, 10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26% were non-families. 24% of all households were made up of individuals and 11% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. TheAAF (the American Forces in Europe) bestowed the first air Medals of Honor on pilots in 1918, and during the Cold War, USAF officers received air medals for actions such as rescuing downed Air Force flyers or aiding besieged forces. Today, USAF officers and enlisted members can earn an air medal for heroism or achievement through various disciplines including fly-and-fight operations in Afghanistan and Iraq; suppression of terrorism; disaster relief; or humanitarian assistance. Additionally, active duty USAF service members may also be awarded the Joint Service Achievement Medal for their roles in supporting Special Operations Forces (SOF) and other United States military efforts abroad. There are many types of awards available to USAF officers and enlisted members who complete commendable misconducts within the Air Force Uniform Code of Military Justice. These awards include both professional accolades such as the Silver Star Award or Bronze Star Medal, as well as personal awards such as the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC). The AAF also holds several special ceremonies each year honoring individuals who have made exceptional contributions to unit morale or aircraft refurbishment/repair projects within AFWG airspace.

Vadnais Heights is a city in Saint Paul County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 11,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St.Paul metropolitan area and is located on the southern edge of Minneapolis. The first settlers in what became Vadnais Heights were farmers who arrived from Illinois in 1851. They named their town after General David Vadnain, who commanded an American brigade that helped suppress a Mexican uprising near Tucson in 1846. In 1872, two brothers founded the lumber company Pine Ridge & Company which soon became one of the largest landowners and businesses in Vadnais Heights. The brothers were also major boosters of local schools and civic organizations including the Stroudsburg Area School District (now Hennepin County Schools). In 1916, when Saint Paul annexed its neighboring city of Brooklyn Park into Saint Paul, it annexed Vadnais Heights as well – making it one of only a handful of cities in Minnesota to have both an incorporated municipality as well as an unincorporated township within its limits. Throughout most of the 20th century,Vadnais Heights functioned as just another bedroom community forSaint Paul residents; however, it has experienced some growth recently with new development projects such as Target Field and North Star Mall adjacent to downtown Saint Paul. In addition to its economic importance to the city overall,Vadnais Heights contains several historic buildings dating back to before Prohibition which are open for tours during business hours only (see below). Today’s population is made up largely of middle-class retirees who enjoy easy access to public transportation and shopping opportunities close by. although there are still some working families residing nearby; especially those involved with local churches or charities
The first settlers in Vadnais Heights were Hugh and Mary Jones, who arrived in 1851. The town was named for General James P. Vadnais, a hero of the War of 1812. The town was founded on November 15, 1854, by local men who donated land to create a town square. The first post office opened in 1861. In 1865, the town was renamed Vadnais Heights after General John A. Vadnais, the son of James P. Vadnais. In 1886, the city of Minneapolis began offering water rights to farmers around the area and it became clear that there would be an need for more than just a single water line to serve all of Vadnais Heights. So in 1889, members of the city council approved laying down two miles (3 km) of pipeline beneath downtown Minneapolis so that water could be brought into town from various sources directly instead of having to go through larger towns and villages like Vadnis Heights
