Fresh roasted coffee beans are a popular and versatile drink in many parts of the world. The first mention of fresh-roasted coffee was in an article from 1892 entitled "Coffee Growing on the Mississippi River." Coffee was being grown near present-day Jackson, Missouri at that time, but no records show when or how the first fresh-roasted coffee became available in town. It's likely that someone brought some freshly roasted beans back with them from their travel across the river. In 1906, Mr. Capps opened his grocery store in town and began selling ground coffee for $1 per pound. At this point, fresh-roasted coffee was becoming more popular than ready-made ground coffee options and people started to look for ways to enjoy this unique blend of flavors without having to go out of their way to find it. In 1913, Mr. Hannon opened his bakery in town and began serving up fresh-roasted java made from whole bean Java Beans instead of just ground beans like he had been doing before. This was a big step forward because it allowed people access to high quality Java Bean coffees without having to go out of their way to find them! By 1976, Fresh Roast Coffee had become one of Jackson's most well known businesses with over 100 employees! Today, Fresh Roast Coffee remains one of our community’s favorite places for delicious cupcakes and lattes!
