Today many landmarks associated with early American history are located within or around Downtown StL including Independence Hall where George Washington met with France’s Lafayette; while still housing some essential government services suchas defense headquarters during World War II; Post Office Building; Courthouse Annex which housed District Courts until it was replaced bythe current courthouse complex in 1988; Masonic Temple Complex/Grand Lodge Hall which houses today’s Grand Lodge building (built 1888); Federal Reserve Bank Building/First National Bank Building which stood until 1973 when it was destroyed by fire; and numerous other smaller examples dating back to before even Missouri became an official U.S.-state!

Lake St. Louis is the largest, deepest, and most alluvial lake in Missouri. The name comes from a French word meaning "plain of great water" or "Great River." The area around present-day Lake St. Louis was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century. European explorers and traders discovered the area in 1664 when they sailed along the Mississippi River as part of a journey to find a new route to India. They called the body of water La Belle Rive (The Beautiful Rivulet). The first Europeans to live near the mouth of the river were French fur traders who traveled downriver from Quebec in search of new markets for their goods. In 1763, Pierre Laclède explored and charted what is now what is known as Laclede's Land for France after he found evidence that a large river flowed through it. By 1768, Englishman James Cook had visited and mapped much of North America including parts of Illinois and Missouri. Cook named this area Columbia because he thought it resembled London's Covent Garden district where rich merchants lived. In 1803, President George Washington signed Executive Order No. 9333 which divided up his country into two areas: Northwest Territory and East Louisiana Purchase Territory which included much of modern-day Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas & Nebraska - making Lake St. Louis one of the original United States territorial lands acquired via purchase from Spain during its brief rule over Mexico City (1821-1824). The land became Ulysses S Grant's personal property after he was elected president in 1875 following Reconstruction – an event that helped solidify Ulysses S Grant's reputation as an American iconoclastic moral hero whose policies benefited majority white males at the expense of African Americans & Native Americans living within Indian reservations under Ulysses S Grant's administration]. On July 1st 1899 Congress passed an act creating Fenton County in north central Missouri on land donated by General Lyon Courthouse founder Isaac Ivey – just south of present day Hannibal - with proceeds going towards building an agricultural school and courthouse on Mound Bayou on behalf of local farmers who had lost their home values due to railroad construction across northern Missouri duringPresident Grover Cleveland’s Administration (see also; Mound Bayou Massacre). On October 16th 1902 Fenton County was established with a population estimated at 350 people living primarily on farmsteads scattered around Mound Bayou north of town proper] During World War I millions dollars were raised for war relief activities by Lake St. Louis businessmen including WL Hecox [the founder/director/owner/operator/founder & CEO | WL Hecox Broadcasting Company], Harry Frazee [the owner & head Operator Kingfisher TV Service], Frank Pyle [the owner / operator KMOX Radio Corporation], John Daugherty [the owner / operator WBBM Radio Corporation], Lou Kahn [owner / operators KMBC Radio Corporation] among others] Immediately following World War I black citizens throughout Greater Chicago went onto strike demanding increased job opportunities while white employers refused to hire them out or give them union representation.] In 1933 Lakefront Park opened featuring extensive amusement park attractions such as roller coasters etc.] Mound Bayou Massacre occurred on October 16th 1902 when Black Panthers led by Huey Newton attempted to cross Mound Bayou despite warnings from law enforcement officials about potential danger posed by protesting civilians.] During ensuing violence several hundred people were killed or injured with some estimates placing the death toll higher than 500.[see also;WL Hecox Broadcast Company v US 5 Cir 555 F 3d 612 (7th Cir 2003)].
