The Poplar Bluff Army Museum has been in operation since 1941. The museum is dedicated to the history of the Poplar Bluff, Missouri, military population during World War II and afterward. The museum includes an interactive exhibit on the History of Poplar Bluff from Pre-War Settlement to World War II, a room filled with memorabilia from local soldiers and their families, and a gallery exhibiting American troops in uniform from World War I through the Korean War. On October 6th, 1941, the Missouri General Assembly passed an act authorizing the erection of an army post inPoplar Bluff. On December 1st, 1941, Colonel James Haney was appointed commandant of Post No. 2 atPoplar Bluff and began preparations for its establishment. By early 1942 there were already over 100 soldiers atPost No. 2 under his command. In addition to providing support for local businesses during wartime (e.g., by supplying food and ammunition), Post No 2 also served as a center for education forpoplar bluffs residents who desired knowledge about military life or wanted to be part of something larger than themselves. For example, many women learned how to sew while serving at Post No 2; children learned about firefighting from airman cadets; service members Learned about drill techniques from enlisted men attending basic training; etcetera. The post saw active duty throughout World War II and until May 1st 1945 when it was relieved by Camp Douglas near Topeka Kansas after hostilities ended in Europe.(See Military Service# Camp Douglas) After1945 PoplarBluff became home to numerous civilian agencies which continued operations even afterthe end ofthe USArmy presence:( See "PoplarBluffs Municipal Government timeline" below).

Poplar Bluff is a community in southwestern Missouri, United States. The population was 2,872 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1836 by Fenton and others as a small farming settlement on the eastern edge of what is now Poplar Bluff. It grew slowly until it became a full-fledged town in 1854 when rail transportation arrived and settlers began to move into the area. The first store opened in 1860 and by 1870 Poplar Bluff had a population of about 150 people. Most of the growth during this time came from cotton production, but some businesses did start up such as an hotel and post office. In 1886, a school was built and soon afterwards PoplarBluffs boasted its own library which still operates today. In 1907, when Missouri became an all-white state, Poplar Bluff's white residents decided to leave for good citing social injustice as their reason. They never returned however and the town's only resident until 1978 was an African American man who worked at one of the local businesses. In 1933, when Poplar Bluff increased its population to 3,000 due to World War II military enlistments (the community supported many local companies that produced goods for military use), it developed its own municipally-owned gasoline company which continues to operate today under different name(s). Poplar Blurt also boasts two high schools - Central High School (now known as MidAmerica Community College) which serves students from grades 9 through 12; and Highland Park High School which serves students from grades 7 through 10. Recently both schools have been closed down for lack of enrollment so that they may be replaced by smaller comprehensive high schools within nearby communities such as Springfield or West Plainsville respectively
Poplar Bluff, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks region of Missouri. It is located in Crawford County, about 20 miles south of St. Louis and 10 miles north of Jacksonville. Poplar Bluff was founded in 1821 by Captain James K. Polk and his wife Hannah as a terminus on the Arkansas River for wagon trains journeying to New Orleans. In 1851, the population was 1,351 and it grew to 2,032 by 1860. The post office at Poplar Bluff was established in 1858 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1922. In addition to its agricultural uintry, Poplar Bluffs economy has been based largely on manufactures- mainly shoes and clothing products- until recently when there has been an increase in tourism due to its rich history and attractions. One of these attractions is the Confederate Battlefields National Military Park which includes 25 battlegrounds dating from 1861 to 1865 including two that are particularly significant- Gettysburg and Vicksburg-. The town also contains several interesting buildings such as the restored courthouse which replaced a building destroyed during World War II; the United States Courthouse (1861); White's Hotel (1891); State House (1922) and Jackson Post Office Annex (1922). Other notable buildings include: Masonic Lodge No. 5; Baptist Church; Catholic Church; Presbyterian church; Methodist church; LDS chapel; Stockade Prison built between 1861-65 by General Robert Ewell Schofield; Noncitizen Settlement #2 built between 1865-68 by John Brown & family.; engine house associated with Greek Revival style schoolhouse at "Mountain View" east of center on Main Street near Highway 24.; village hall which replaced old Methodist Episcopal Meeting House built c 1830s., now used as library

Armor began becoming more elaborate over time and started incorporating features such as plates, guards, helmets, etc. This allowed soldiers to stay safe while fighting and protected them from damage or injury themselves as well as others around them (pictured). The modern armament we use today is nothing short of amazing considering how often we are called upon to fight (and war!). Poplar Bluff is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 792 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The first settler in Poplar Bluff was John Grimes, who arrived in 1837. He and his family built a cabin on the bluffs overlooking the confluence of the rivers at what is now known as Grimsley Park. In 1840, Grimes married Jane Addison and they had four children: John (1841-1901), Margaret (1843-1922), erva (1845-1924) and Truman(1847-1920). All except one were born in Poplar Bluff or within two miles of it. erva died young at age 25 after contracting an illness that caused pneumonia; she was buried in Elmwood Cemetery with her parents and sisters. On July 26, 1922, President Warren G Harding dedicated Grimsley Park to Jane Addison Grimes for her Contributions to American Life during her lifetime." There are several markers to commemorate this important event including a plaque placed at Elmwood Cemetery by Mrs. Jane Addison Grimes' daughter Mrsella Aiken Grant and erected by local citizens on behalf of their mother."
Poplar Bluff was founded in 1847 by Alexander Graham Bell. It is the oldest incorporated town in St. Louis County and one of the most recent settlements in the area. Poplar Bluff originally consisted of a few small villages, including Arlington, Bellefontaine, and Easton. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Missouri River and its natural resources, which included timber, water power, and coal. In 1860, Poplar Bluff became an incorporated municipality with a population of 2,500. By 1920, Poplar Bluff had grown to 10,000 citizens and had become one of the most important commercial districts in St. Louis County. Despite this growth, Poplar Bluff remained largely rural until after World War II when it began to attract large numbers of city-dwellers and professionals. Afterward,poplar bluffremained primarily a bedroom community until the mid-2000s when it began to experience rapid gentrification
