A school was founded in 1850 and became one of the largest schools in St Francois County In 1861, when Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter near Springfield, Missouri (about 20 miles east of Sikeston), most residents chose to stay behind to fight rather than leave their homes which could have been captured or burned by Confederate troops if they had taken target within range of their cannons In 1865 local resident John Haughton organized local militia to help suppress an attempted slave insurrection at nearby Carbondale In 1870s many farmers moved into what is now Sikeston from other parts of central Missouri due to cheap land prices – resulting in increased population density During Prohibition era many businesses closed down due to prohibition laws being passed throughout America The community experienced significant economic decline during World War II due to lack of jobs available after the war Since 1991 much development has occurred including new housing developments and renovations around town center

Today, Sikeston is a thriving community that continues to grow despite some challenges – such as high crime rates and limited parking options – but which remains an important cultural center on the Rocheport-St Louis metropolitan area.

Sikeston is located in Jackson County, Missouri, and was founded on the banks of the Missouri River in 1837. The town became a railroad center during the late 1800s and early 1900s, and has since been home to a number of businesses and residents.
