The Missouri Air National Guard's 4th Airlift Wing was founded in 1947. In 1955, the wing moved to Moffett Field and became the 1st Airlift Wing. The wing became a provisional unit of the USAF during the Korean War and served as an airlift command for United Nations Forces Korea. In 1970, the wing relocated to Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma, and was redesignated as the 4th Airlift Wing (Airmen) in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Clarence C. "Butch" Hillman IV who had been bestowed with this name by then-Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara after his distinguished career in USAF Reserve flying operations during World War II. In 1984, Major General James L. Nichols assumed command of both wings and enlarged them to their current sizes with a new mission - providing logistical support for United States Strategic Command forces engaged in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield/Storm. In 1992, Commander 5th Airlift Squadron activated at Offutt AFB as part ofOperation Noble Eagle which flew cargo planes into Iraqi airspace to pick up military supplies being unloaded from Kuwaiti ports. That same year also saw the activation of Headquarters 4th Airlift Wing at Scott AFBorname changes again when Headquarters element was transferred from Stroud AFB ( Alabama ) to Offutt AFB effective 1 Jul 1993 when headquarterselement replaced AFS McConnell AFB Logistics Center; HQ elements were reassigned back & forth between Offutt & McConnell AFB until 9 Sep 2003 when all HQ elements were consolidated at Offutt AFB under one commander
St. Ann is a small town in Missouri, United States. It is named after the patron saint of the town, Annunciation. The population was 2,712 at the 2010 census. Saint Ann is part of the Kansas City–Kansas metropolitan area and it is one of four towns in that area. The first settler in what would become St. Ann was Nicholas, who arrived from Bohemia in 1814. He erected a small log cabin on what is now FM 6288 about two miles east of present day St. Anne's Cemetery (now called Pappenheim Park). In 1815, Fenton Cranch came over with David Dixon and built a large log cabin on FM 6288 about three miles north-northwest of present day St. Anne's Cemetery (now known as Pappenheim Park). This early settlement grew slowly due to lack of available land and water access; however, by 1820 there were six settlers living at Fenton Cranch and eight others at Dixon’s Cabin In 1827, a group led by John Ladd purchased 100 acres (40 hectares) southeast of present day Saint Anne's Cemetery for $600 from Samuel Kallmeyer Fenton Cranch sold their holdings to Ladd in 1830 In 1830 James Armstrong moved his family to this new location and started trading goods along Old US Highway 66 near what would become St. Ann . By 1840 there were 10 families residing in this area including Armstrong himself By 1850 there were 20 families living here with an additional 60+ people housed inside Mrnrmills' gristmill located just northeast of modern day Saint Anne’s Cemetery . In 1881, St. Ann incorporated as a village and attained municipal status in 1903. The community experienced significant growth during World War II with its heavy manufacturing sector and large population influxes of refugees from Europe. However, overall economic decline followed World War II until the early 21st century when new investment began to support local businesses and industries including agriculture, construction, education and healthcare.
