In St. Ann, Missouri, the coast guard has been providing service since 1887. The first Coast Guard station was opened in this town on November 9th of that year. At that time, it was known as “the Fort” and was used to help protect the coastline from piracy. From then until 1916, coast guard service was provided by a detachment of the military called the “Lighthouse Department”. In 1916, a new Coast Guard station was built in St. Ann and became operational as an agency within the military services. The name change came about because at that time there were no specific plans for such a thing and people began referring to the station as simply “the Lighthouse Department” instead of calling it anything specific. The Coast Guard Station St. Ann played an important role during World War II because it acted as both a naval auxiliary and air defense unit. It also served as a post for processing refugees arriving on board U-boats during this time period. After the war, the Coast Guard Station suffered from budget cuts which led to its closure in 1951 but it reopened again in 1961 under new management with responsibility for coastal security only; however, it continued to provide support for maritime safety until its closure once again in 1992 due to budget constraints; however, it reopened once more in 1996 under new management with responsibility for all aspects of coastal security including law enforcement and marine patrol services along the Gulf of Mexico region

In 1862, when Abraham Lincoln was elected president, St. Ann dedicated a chapel at Springfield Armory in memory of Union General John Custer and his men who had been killed there six months earlier. In 1865, when Charles Sumner delivered his "House Resolution" condemning slavery in America, St. Ann made an appearance at Carthage Jail with other religious figures to show support for Sumner's cause. After Lincoln's assassination in 1865,St. Ann withdrew from public life but continued to be venerated by local Catholics as their patron saint until her death in 1896 aged 92 years old. Today her feast day is celebrated throughout Missouri as a national holiday and people around the world visit her shrine to offer prayers for peace and good luck during this difficult time."

St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Missouri is one of the most important religious institutions in the state. Located on the townsquare of St. Joseph, it was founded in 1814 by Rev. George Washington Halford and other clergymen from nearby Aberdeen Church. The first church was built on a site that is now the corner of First and Market Streets. The church has been serving parishioners in Missouri since 1819, when it was organized as a Congregationalist chapel. It became an Episcopal congregation in 1866, after rejecting a proposal to join an existing Anglican congregation in St. Louis. In 1922, the bishop of Missouri granted membership to all Methodist churches within his jurisdiction; this decision allowed St. Ann to become affiliated with both denominations simultaneously, making it one of the largest Episcopal congregations in the Midwest. Today, St. Ann's remains one of the most popular ecclesiastical destinations for tourists throughout central Missouri and beyond, hosting events such as weddings and funerals alike year-round (including major Lenten services). The parish also publishes its own quarterly journal called "The Ecclesiological Review".
The first settlers in St. Ann were the McDonnell family who arrived in 1827. The McDonnells organized a Methodist church and founded a school in 1829. In 1865, the community was named for Saint Anne, the mother of Jesus. In 1870, a post office was established in St. Ann and remained open until it closed in 1907. In 1965, the name of the town was changed to Prescott afterSenator John A. Prescott of Missouri.
