St. Ann, MO is a small town located in the Ozarks of Missouri. The population was 3,879 at the 2010 census. The name "Ann" comes from the Catholic patron saint, Annunciation. Annunciation is also known as "the Angel of Peace." In 1871, when St. Louis residents voted to incorporate as a city, they chose to name their new city after St. Ann because she had been one of the most prominent saints in Roman Catholicism and her miracles werewidely reported throughout the area. The first church in St. Ann was built in 1871 by Father Ambrose Healy and namedafter Saint Anne of Padua (who is honored on All Souls Day). The original building was destroyed by fire in 1886 but it was rebuilt with funds from local citizens and renamed again after Father Ambrose Healy in 1902-03-04-05-06-07 when the community moved to its current site which included land donated by General James Kapp and his wife Martha Kapp McNulty Kapp. In 1955, construction began on what would become known as "The Cathedral". The cornerstone for this beautiful structure was laid on October 14th, 1955 by Archbishop John Wuerker under the leadership of Mayor John Maher who stated that he wanted it erected “to show our determination that we are a part of this great metropolis” (Citizen's Newspaper Article). On December 5th 1957 Bishop George Fenton dedicated The Cathedral during an event attended by Mayor Maher along with many other civic leaders including Congressman Thaddeus Stevens and Mrs. John Fenton himself who becamethe first female mayor of St....

Saint Ann was a religious figure who lived in Saint Louis, Missouri. She is considered the patron saint of that city and its inhabitants. Ann was born in 585 AD to an Irish family in what is now County Clare, Ireland. When she was only thirteen, she married the notable bishop of Clonfert, Donatus. They moved to Rome to become monks and had two children. After Donatus' death in 612 AD, Ann took on his responsibilities as Bishop of Clonfert. In624 AD, she founded the first monastery in Missouri at Concepcionville. Thereafter, her monastery became one of the most popular religious institutions in that area. She also served as a missionary to many different parts of the world and helped lay down guidelines for Catholic church practice around the world. In 855 AD, Pope Nicholas I awarded her the title Venerable (a high honor). On July 20th century, St Ann's feast day, her remains were enshrined within the basilica built over her original monastic complex in Saint Louis by Emperor Constantine I Monophysite Christians ordered by Patriarchate of Constantinople after their conversion from Nestorianism to Chalcedonianism Many other churches were built over time including one at Carthage which still stands today as a shrine to St Ann- even if it doesn't look like it!
