Gourmet Coffee History in St. Ann, Missouri The first coffee shop in St. Ann was the Gourmand Coffee House which opened on Main Street in 1881. The first coffee beans were roasted and sold by Mr. John Pugh at this business. In 1897, Mrs. Julia Goodridge opened her own coffee house on Third Street and soon became a popular local spot for people to enjoy their morning cup of Joe. In 1907, the Royal Dutch Shell Company founded a refinery in St. Anna that began to produce gasoline for automobiles and other products nationwide. This new development brought about an increase in demand for coffee beans from the refinery, which led to the opening of Gourmand Coffee House #2 on Fourth Avenue in 1909-10 after years of planning by Mrs. Goodridge and her husband, John Bickleman Sr.. At this point, Gourmand Coffee House had become one of the most popular tourist spots in town with its beautiful architecture and delicious java drinks served up by friendly staff members who enjoyed chatting with customers during their morning break! In 1916-17 when World War I raged across Europe, many residents enlisted in military service so they could be able to earn money while they supported their families; as a result, Gourmand Coffee House closed its doors temporarily due to low sales combined with wartime rationing shortages! It reopened under new management later that year but quickly lost popularity as war progressed and bean prices increased! However, it is still considered a significant milestone in gourmet coffee history because it was one of the very first businesses to offer pre-packaged ground coffee made fresh daily at home instead of purchasing expensive beans from suppliers! In 1948 when located down First Street off Highway 6 north of St Annes Municipal Airport (now Old Ulysses Road), Gourmands Cafe became one of only two commercial enterprises left operating within three miles radius that produced both Java Coffees (made fresh daily) & Tea Steeps (served hot & cold). With continued success over ensuing years until finally closing its doors permanently due to health concerns related to asbestos exposure back then days!), Gourmain's Cafe remain an important part of ourSt Annes community memory bank today as one of our earliest pioneers (& longest running) operational cafes serving quality Java coffees & tea steeps

In 1870, one of the first coffee shops in town was opened by John Hickey and his brother-in-law, Daniel Sprague. The shop served a variety of teas and coffees as well as pastries such as donuts and croissants. This establishment was very popular among residents of St. Ann due to its high quality service and great selection of coffees. The popularity of these cafes led to other businesses starting up throughout the 1800s in St. Ann, including a bakery, butcher shop, grocery store, hotel, post office, and more!
St. Ann is a small town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States with a population of about 3,000 residents. The community was named after the patron saint of the area, Anne of Hungary. The first European colonists to arrive in what is now St. Ann were Dutch settlers in 1671. They named their new land "New Netherlands". After numerous setbacks and wars with the French and Spanish, they finally arrived at what is now Saint Ann in 1764 after being sent there by Governor Peter Minuit on behalf of the New Netherland Company. The place name means "Valley of the Virgin." A post office called Saint Annes was established in 1811, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. In 1821 an Act of Congress designated part of present-day St. Louis County as Stannard Township which included most of what is now Saint Ann. In 1824, when Daniel Boone settled his family hereabouts near the present day intersection of Ulysses Road and Old National Road (now I-70), he plotted his southern boundary along this line as far west as Clearwater Creek (now eastbound I-70). At that time only a few miles east from where Boone's cabin still stands today stand five other early settler homes: three for Randolph Cowles (the first white child born within range), one for David Levy (a blacksmith who built some early churches hereabouts), two for Isaac Backus (later mayor and namesake of Backus Park), and one for Nicholas Payton (founder father founder member/owner/operator) also known as Nicholas Payney or Payton's Farmstead on Cline Creek northeast corner Ulysses Road intersection.). All these dwellings were destroyed by fire during Bacon's Rebellion c1837-38 but are still visible today just south of Clearwater Creek bridge at mile marker 24 on I-70; all farm buildings except Randolph Cowles' cabin have been replaced by more recent structures since then! Dutch Reformed Christianity spread rapidly throughout much northeastern Missouri following religious reformer John Wycliffe's preaching crusade in England around 1290 AD; many people converted to Protestantism beginning around 1760s due to religious persecution under Catholic rule in Spain and Portugal across North America prior thereto.. In 1764 Presbyterian pastor Samuel Finney organized a group called 'Annonians', which laid out new regulations regarding church attendance among Presbyterians scattered throughout Northeast Missouri.. Reverend Finney had earlier traveled through France disguised as a Catholic priest to observe conversions there; upon his return he reported back that conversion rates among Protestants there were almost 50% higher thanamong Catholics! And so On July 4th1765 Annonians erected their First Parish Church cornerstone nearby on what became State Route 54.. Reverend Finney preached services weekly at this church until his death circa 1830... By 1800some 900 people lived here including 160 whites & 240 slaves chiefly African Americans form plantations along MO River valley Slave trade continued into 20th century

In the early 1800s, St. Ann was a small community located in present day Missouri. The first time that the name "St. Ann" was used was in 1816 when it was given to a woman named Anna who had arrived in the area from Russia. In 1821, a group of Methodists founded what would become known as the Parish of St. Ann. By 1830, the parish had grown to include over 1,000 residents and by 1836, it had outgrown its original location on the banks of the Osage River. The parish then purchased land at what is now called Old Saint Ann's Road and began construction on what would become their own church which opened in 1840. Construction proceeded slowly due to financial difficulties but eventually finished within budget and also included features such as an underground chapel and separate children's ward with its own private entrance. The church currently stands as one of Missouri's most popular tourist destinations with over 12 million visitors annually.
St. Ann was founded in 1837 by Father John Cavanaugh, a missionary from Ireland. The town was named after the Virgin Mary and it became an important stop on the Underground Railroad. The town also housed the first Protestant church in Missouri. In 1861, St. Ann's incorporation as a city made it one of the first cities in the state to be governed by a municipal government.
