In early 1800s, a man by the name of Isaac Brock discovered and named the coffee plant in what is now St. Ann, Missouri. Coffee was first roasted here and it was later exported to other parts of the United States. The first coffee shop opened up in 1825 and it served as a means for people to buy coffee from farmers in the area. By 1830, there were over 60 coffee shops operating in St. Ann. Coffee became popularized in America during the Civil War because soldiers needed fuel for their engines and cannons and also because many Americans could not find anything else to eat due to food shortages. After the war, many people started growing their own coffee plants because they couldn't find enough beans from friends or family members who had grown them before. The first Starbucks opened up in 1984 and it quickly became one of America's most popular coffeehouses. In 2007, Starbucks announced that they would close all of their stores across America due to difficult financial times. However, some stores still remain open as cafe locations throughout America continue to serve delicious cup of Joe every day!

The first coffee was roasted in St. Ann, Missouri on September 1, 1861 by John Cunningham. In 1865, the town of St. Ann became a stop on the Underground Railroad and many fugitive slaves were brought to town for coffee.

The first white person to live in what is now St. Ann, Missouri, was David Humphreys in 1839. The town was founded by English settlers as a small frontier post on the banks of the Missouri River. It grew rapidly during the 1840s and 1850s, due to its location on the trade routes between Illinois and Kansas City. By 1860, St. Ann had a population of about 100 people. During the American Civil War, residents of St. Ann enlisted in local militias or volunteers to help fight for their country. Many men from the town were killed or wounded in battle, including John Fenton and James Auld. In 1865, when Missouri became an Confederacy state, St. Ann's citizens voted to secede from their state and join the Union side. In 1870, John Fenton erected a large frame courthouse on Main Street in downtown St. Ann; it remains one of the town's most important historical landmarks today. From 1870 until his death in 1892, Fenton served as mayor of Saint Anntown (later renamed Saint Louis). He was also a strong advocate for education within his community and helped fund several school districts throughout central Missouri during this time period. In 1902, JF Mason opened The Masonic Temple at 4th & Maple Streets in downtown Saint Anntown (later renamed Saint Louis). This building still stands as one of the town's most important commercial attractions today; it has been used as a office building, hotel rooming house, music hall/theatre venue and more recently as a museum documenting early 19th century STL culture and history]. The parish of Our Lady of Lourdes was established by Pope Pius IX in 1855 and soon became one of the largest religious communities in America. A large portion of Saint Ann Parish remains today within the limits of present-day Springfield Township in central St. Louis County. The original settlers to what is now Springfield Township were primarily Irish Catholics who had come to Missouri from Ireland in search of new land and opportunity. Many families continued to live in what is now Springfield Township until after World War II when they all moved out into other parts of St. Louis County because of development around STL International Airport (now known as Midtown STL). One family that stayed behind was the McConnells who continue to live on Park Avenue between Maple and Laurel Streets today. This area has been called "the heart" or "the bastion" of Saint Ann Parish since its establishment more than 300 years ago.

St. Ann was founded in 1812 by the Catholic missionaries, Father Damien and Brother Maurice. The original mission station was located on a small stream called the Kedzie River. In 1824, the present-day town of St. Ann was founded on land donated by John C. Fremont. The first post office was established in 1826 and the first store opened in 1830. In 1840, Saint Ann became an independent town when it seceded from neighboring Randolph County. The population of Saint Ann peaked at around 10,000 in 1860 but fell to 4,500 by 1880 due to waves of Mormon immigration and deportations from Utah Territory.
