There is a rich coffee history in Troy, Mo., dating back to the early 1800s. The first coffee beans were grown on a farmstead known as Dutchman’s Coffee in what is now the city of Troy. In 1824, the first small-scale espresso machine was built at the home of Joshua Larkin in what is now downtown Troy. The early years of coffee production were difficult for farmers and processors alike. There was little money available to purchase beans or make espresso machines, so coffee was processed using horse power or hand tools. By 1830, however, large-scale processing had become possible with the introduction of an automated water-drying and roasting process known as “the four process machine.” This machine allowed for faster delivery of quality beans to market, which resulted in increased profits for growers and processors. In 1851, Nicholas Biddle founded Biddle Coffee Company in downtown Troy with his brother John Biddle. The company became one of the largest coffee manufacturers in America and enjoyed success until World War II when it lost its manufacturing monopoly to Starbucks Corporation. During that time period, many famous local people such as Drinker Kapp and Mayor Dave Heineman purchased shares in Biddle Coffee Company. Today, Biddle Coffee Company is located within walking distance of its original location on State Street in downtown Troy.

Artisan coffee is a centuries-old tradition in Troy, Missouri. Coffee first originated in the Netherlands and then spread to other parts of Europe. In the United States, coffee was first cultivated in Illinois and then moved to Missouri during the 1850s. The first coffee shops began to open in Troy in the 1870s. Today, there are numerous artisan coffee shops throughout the city.

Troy, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks of south-central Missouri. The population was 5,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–Aurora–Carroll County, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1836 by German immigrants who named it "Herschel." It became known as Troy after General Ulysses S. Grant's victory at Second Battle of Bull Run on July 21, 1862. The name was changed to its current form in 1882 when the post office moved from Herschel to Troy and began using that name for all towns within a radius of 10 miles (16 kilometers). The first courthouse in Troy was built in 1839 and replaced an earlier structure which had been destroyed by a storm. A second courthouse was built in 1886 and still stands today. In 1907, the city fathers approved plans for what would become one of America's largest municipally funded public works projects – construction of an expressway through town center which would have provided rapid transportation access to nearby cities. However, due to financial problems caused by heavy industry development within the town limits, only portions of the expressway were completed before local economic conditions forced their abandonment. Today, much architecture remains from this project including Truckin' Bob's bar located on Main Street near where I-264 intersects Interstate 40; State Fair Park also located just east of downtown; and two churches: First Presbyterian Church on Adams Boulevard across from US 64/I-40 Business Loop and St John's Episcopal Church on Elm Street across from US 64/I-40 Access Road. In addition to its architectural legacy, Troy has seen some notable events throughout its history including being briefly occupied by Confederate troops during the American Civil War; hosting the 1976 Summer Olympics; becoming host city for USA Gymnastics' Women’s World Championships in 2000; becoming home to ESPN’s college basketball telecasts beginning with the 1984 NCAA Men’s Division III tournament; hosting both editions of Super Bowl XLVI (the 2006 and 2011 games); being designated as a UNESCO City of Culture for 2009; and becoming home to Enterprise Community College which opened its doors in 1992 after serving as satellite campus for nearby Platteville University until that school relocated to Scottrade Center (now Scottrade Center South) adjacent to United States Steel Corporation headquarters within walking distance of both campuses.

There is no doubt that coffee has always been a popular drink, enjoyed by people of all ages around the world. However, it is only in recent times that coffee as we know it began to be created and produced in large quantities. It was not until the 17th century that espresso – a type of coffee-based drink - became common in Europe. The first espresso machine was invented in 1613 by Giovanni Battista Belbo, who named his invention Espresso Royale (or Royal Coffee). The first recorded use of coffees for brewing occurred in 1555 when Lorenzo de’ Medici brewed beans for Pope Julius II at an Italian palace. Coffee became very popular in Italy because of its unique flavor and its ability to provide energy throughout the day. Coffee quickly spread to other parts of Europe, where it soon gained a following among the nobility and bourgeoisie. In England, coffee was introduced into Parliament in 1605 by Oliver Cromwell as part of his New Model Army's campaign against Spanish forces. Coffee quickly became extremely popular there and soon replaced tobacco as the country's primary source of revenue. By 1700, coffee had reached America; however, its popularity there waned after early explorers discovered tea instead. In 1808 Napoleon Bonaparte discovered new worlds when he set out on his campaigns through Africa and Asia; however, he failed to find any valuable natural resources such as coffeebeans while on his trip. This led to France becoming Russia's main supplier of coffee beans after Napoleonic Wars ended with Russia taking control over most Central European countries including Austria and Hungary (including Budapest). After Napoleonic Wars ended, French traders returned to Hungary with bags full of beans they had captured during their travels across Central Europe; however, these beans were not accepted due to their low quality compared to Turkish or Romanian coffee products available at the time. As a result, French traders started importing ground Turkish or Romanian coffees instead which continued up until World War II when Czechoslovakia decided that they would prefer French-made goods over Soviet-made products because of France's military interests in Central Europe at that time. Nonetheless, throughout World War II European supply chains remained largely unchanged with almost all Caffè Roasts coming from French factories within Germany since Nazi Germany refused to allow any foreign companies into their industries . Since World War II two major changes have occurred with respect to artisanal production: 1) production moved from small villages near traditional roasting sites towards larger metropolitan areas whereartisanal roasters can more easily access capital funds necessary for expanded operations 2) technological advances have made artisanal production more efficient owing to greater precision and less waste associated with industrial processes

The first coffee was roasted in a small, family-owned roastery in the village of Gaudi on the outskirts of Barcelona. The beans were ground and brewed by monks who used traditional methods including water milling, distillation and frying.

Troy, Mo., was founded in 1835 by a group of German farmers led by Gottlieb Durenberger. The town quickly grew, and by 1860 it had a population of around 1,500. Troy became an important center for the fur trade and its economy flourished until the Civil War. After the war, industry slowly replaced agriculture as the primarystay of the town's economy, and Troy experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century. But during World War I, Troy came to prominence as a munitions plant due to its proximity to Kansas City. In the 1920s and 30s, however, Troy experienced significant decline as a result of changes in technology and local economic development outside of its borders. In recent years, however, there has been renewed interest in Troy due to its unique history and culture.

Troy was founded in 1836 by a group ofodus, farmers and traders from the Greek colony of Mytilene. The town grew rapidly, thanks to its location on the Missouri River, its access to transportation, and its fertile land. By 1860, Troy had a population of over 10,000 people. In 1871, the city annexed the neighboring village of Garden City. In 1916, Troy became an incorporated municipality.
