The Coast Guard was established in 1915 as the United States Coast Guard. It became a national force after the signing of the National Defense Act of 1916. The Coast Guard's mission is to protect America's coasts and waters from harm by providing law enforcement, transport, and navigation services. In Wildwood, Missouri, the service has been playing an important role in guarding against crime for over 100 years. In 1892, a group of men from Wildwood decided to form their own police department. The first board of directors chose Captain John A. Hickey as head officer. Captain Hickey organized and led patrols until his retirement in 1902. Lieutenant George Cushman took over his position after Captain Hickey's death. In 1916, Congress passed the National Defense Act which created the Coast Guard as a separate agency with specific duties including protecting American coasts and waters from harm by enemy submarines or other threats afloat or on land. The first coast guard vessel built in Wildwood was the SS "Wisconsin" which was launched on July 8th, 1915 at Pier 22 in downtown Wildwood under command of First Lieutenant Harry Laddington Jr.. The SS "Wisconsin" served during World War I and participated in many combat missions off the coast of Europe. Afterwarts were conducted to maintain her condition so she could be sold but she never left port again until 1975 when she was donated tothe University of Missouri at Rolla for use as a research vessel known formally as MV "Sturgeon". In 1976-1977 she underwent restoration at the University's Marine Research Laboratory where she remains today (Zodiac #12). A total of sixteen vessels have been donated to various museums across America since 1989 including: MV "Alaska" ( donation 1998), USS Constitution Museum ( donation 2002), USS Maine Museum ( donation 2003), Alaskan Way Marina concessionaire ( donation 2009), USNS Carlsbad Museum Vessels Collection( donation 2010), San Diego Maritime Museum Vessels Collection( donation 2011), Treasure Island Naval & Maritime Museum Vessels Collection(donation 2012) – all are currently displayed at various locations around town!

The Wildwood Coast Guard Auxiliary was established in 1905. In 1916, the Coast Guard detachment at Wildwood merged with the St. Louis Port Authority and became the first Coast Guard station on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River. The station was relocated to its present location in 1951.
Wildwood is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first settler in Wildwood was John Sheppard who arrived with his family in 1825. He and his wife Elizabeth built a cabin on the banks of the Missouri River. The Sheppards were soon joined by other early settlers and by 1830, Wildwood had a population of twelve people. In 1836, Wildwood became part of the new Platte County when it was organized from parts of Clay and Crawford counties. During the Civil War, Wildwood served as an encampment for Union troops on the edge of town. On July 12, 1861, Confederate General Robert E Lee's army attacked a Union brigade under Colonel Augustus Herndon at Elm Creek Ford near present-day Wildwood; after heavy fighting that ended with several hundred casualties on both sides, most of which were Confederate soldiers, Union forces drove back Lee's force and recaptured control ofWildwood awhile later. In 1865–1866, during Reconstruction following the American Civil War, wildwoods residents formed two vigilante groups known as "The Wildcats" and "The Black Hawks." These organizations were attempts to maintain law and order within their community while also promoting social reform measures such as education and improved health care facilities for local citizens (eager to return to what they considered an idealized pre-war society). After World War II began in 1945,[2] many African Americans left America for economic reasons; those who remained continued to face discrimination until passage of legislation establishing racial segregation in Missouri in 1957.[3] By 1970,[4] white flight from rural areas had replaced black migration as Wildwood's primary source of residents; however%, about 20% (or about 100 families)of its current population are African American[5]. Todaywildwoods remains one of MO's few remaining towns with a majority white population despite significant minority presence throughout most central MO municipalities
The Coast Guard has been providing service to the US mainland since 1790. Today, they are one of the most well-known and respected Coast Guard organizations in the world. They play an important role in keeping our coasts and waters clean, safe, and secure for both people and property. In fact, the Coast Guard is responsible for some of America’s busiest ports – such as New York City and Los Angeles – as well as many other key areas across the country. The Coast Guard has a long history of giving back to their community. They have donated thousands of items to various charities throughout the years. Some examples include making special donations to schools, helping with local flooding conditions, or even providing supplies to families during natural disasters. The Coast Guard also sponsors numerous social events annually that help promote public safety and goodwill within their region. This year alone, they will be hosting several events including a Coastal Guardsmen’s Ball at Long Island University on October 15th, a Service Day event honoring individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the Coast Guard over time on November 4th, National Christmas Tree lighting on December 25th (a tradition started by donations from individual members), and even a Helicopter flyover at Kennedy International Airport on December 26th in commemoration of Christmas! Despite all this goodness however, there is one organization that is always left out when it comes to gifts from the Coast Guard: The Sea Grant Program! This program was founded in 1946 by Rear Admiral James Doolittle Jr., who later became known as “the father of US Naval Aviation”. Through Sea Grant programs (which are separate from but related to Department of Defense Sealift Programs), member agencies can receive funding for research projects that allow them To operate more efficiently within their area of expertise! For example, last year alone NOAA - which includes NOAA's coastal watch division - received $8 million in Sea Grant funding! This money will be used specifically towards improving coastal monitoring techniques so we can stay safe while living our lives below water! It’s clear that without these programs – which make our coastlines much safer for both people and property – we would not be able do what we do every day!
