Billings, Montana is a small town located in the central part of the state of Montana. The population was 7,291 at the 2010 census. The Billings Amtrak station is located in town. The first post office in Billings was established on February 14, 1877. The town was named after William H. Billings, who donated land for the new post office. The first mail train to come through Billings arrived on July 5, 1879. At that time, there were only a few buildings and no residents living in the town. The railroad brought with it many changes to Billings over the years including increased employment opportunities and growth in other businesses such as grocery stores and café's along with general store additions throughout the decades until recently when fast food restaurants have become an increasingly popular aspect of life in town square today! The city of Great Falls also lies just east of Billings as well as several smaller towns which make up what is now rural central Montana. All three jurisdictions are included within historical boundaries once defined by Spanish explorer Don Jose de Salazar during his 1769-1770 journey across what is now Wyoming and Colorado into this expansive area known then as North America - one that would eventually be divided between Mexico and United States! It wasn't until 1893 when Yellowstone National Park was established adjacent to present day Great Falls – making it possible for people living east of Glacier National Park to see not only some of America's most iconic landscapes but also learn about Native American history right here in their own backyard! On January 1, 1887, the town of Billings was incorporated as a city. The population growth in Billings made it necessary to build a new municipal building in 1903. On May 12, 1907, the first city election was held in which all citizens were allowed to vote. The Republican Party won both the mayor and council seats by large majorities. In 1912 the Republican City Council passed an ordinance allowing women to work in local businesses. The next year, Mayor Charles A. Nordstrom appointed Oakley Darrow as the first female police officer in Billings.
