The Coast Guard was first created in 1790 as a part of the New Jersey Militia. In 1821, it was merged with the United States Navy and given its own command. The Coast Guard has played an important role in both domestic and international security since its creation. Today, the Coast Guard operates more than 1,300 ships and vessels throughout coastal communities along America’s east coast and is responsible for rescuing people in distress, enforcing maritime law, investigating criminal activity on our coasts, maintaining public order and providing support to local fire departments. Gift history of the Coast Guard began with a donation from Colonel Isaac Watts of Beachwood in 1790. Col Watts had been inspired to start a militia after seeing British sailors storm ashore at Long Island in 1776. After his donation, the first coasters were built at Weehawken Naval Station by Captain John Tryon. In 1821, when the Coast Guard was created as a separate service within the navy under President James Kentshire, Captain Tryon donated two boats (Sloop Refueling Ship SS William Kidd) to be used as patrol vessels off Sandy Hook Point during Hurricane Andrew’s aftermath. Since then, numerous gifts from citizens of Beachwood have been instrumental in keeping our maritime community running smoothly - from USS Constitution Museum restoration grants to donations of new equipment or supplies for local police departments across America. The first Europeans to visit Beachwood were Dutch traders in 1624, and French colonists in 1640. In 1838, the township was formed from part of Rahway Township. It was named for General George Washington's home at Mount Vernon near Princeton. In 1881, Beachwood became a city when it amalgamated with Rahway Township to form Bergen County. Beachwood has a humid continental climate (Köppen "Dfb"), which means that summers are hot and winters are cold but mild; precipitation is typically light and evenly distributed throughout the year. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, beachwood has a sub-arctic climate (Cfa).

The Coast Guard was created as part of the United States Department of Defense and initially served as a paramilitary force used to protect America's coastline from attack. over time, however, the Coast Guard began to develop its own capabilities and eventually became a full-time law enforcement agency. The Coast Guard currently operates over 270 ships and helicopters throughout its territory which includes 1,500 miles of coastline. In addition to their duties as a law enforcement agency, the Coast Guard also provides environmental protection services and offers humanitarian assistance.

Beachwood is a town in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 6,055 at the 2010 census. Beachwood is part of the Atlantic City–Bridgewater metropolitan area. It was founded in 1812 by English colonists as a result of the Napoleonic Wars and named for Beach House on Long Island, where some of the colonists had come from. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its strategic location near major shipping lanes and its connection with developments along Route 29. In 1915, it became one of several towns in Ocean County to be incorporated as a borough. As a borough, Beachwood had less control over its own destiny than towns that were incorporated as villages or baronies. During World War II, many Germans were interned in Beachwood because it was an important port on the Atlantic coast for supplying Nazi Germany with munitions and other war material. Some descendants of those who were interned continue to live in Beachwood today and maintain their German heritage through cultural activities such as German language classes and events. Beachwood also played an important role in early American history; according to local legend, George Washington stopped by during his visit to Jersey City on his way back from Mount Vernon after leaving office on October 17, 1789 while passing through Beech Wood Commons public house near present-day Neptune Avenue and State Street (now North Avenue). After taking refreshments at Beech Wood Commons and dining at nearby Tavern on the Green (later called The Hermitage), Washington walked past Beech Wood Commons again en route back home via Hackensack River Road before stopping overnight at Sunnyside Manor on October 18 at Bay View Point on Staten Island - now part of Marine Corps Base Brooklyn - off present-day Livingston Avenue between Nassau Boulevard and Park Row Drive within Randall’s Island proper (now Midtown Manhattan). At this point he left New York for good but not before stopping briefly at beachfront taverns along his journey home: White Horse Tavern south of what are now Clinton Street/VP Parkway north of Adams Highway east of Bay Ridge Creek north of Dewey Boulevard west of Bensonhurst Creek south depts.,[2] Dutchman’s Tavern further down Clinton Street east side towards Flatbush Ave.,[3] East Side Inn which still stands today across from Borough Hall,[4] South Ferry Inn which burned down around 1800,[5][6] Rehoboth Hotel opposite Church Quarters close current day Eastern Parkway/Deck Road junction – all located near present day Monmouth Junction[/7],[8][9],[10] . . . And finally two places which receive significant mention but do not actually appear anywhere mentioned:[11][12], One being Kettner’s Wharf just offshore from where Wawa currently sits – once owned by Jameson & Son livery stable owners Isaac Katz & Sons prior to 1910 when they sold it to Frank Cass & Maurice RosenbergEffective Date: 8/14/2010.] It is said that George Washington passed through Beachwood twice during his Visit America tour - once while he was staying at Beech Wood Commons Public House behind Neptune Avenueand later another time when he stopped overnight at Sunnyside Manor off Staten Island between Nassau Boulevard and Park Row Drive within Randall's Island proper.[8][9],[10]. There are two sources that state that President James Kettner stopped there too - one says he did so whilst driving back from Trenton after attending a meeting with General Schuyler Donelson[11], whilst another claims he did so whilst driving home from Catasauqua following victory over British troops besieging Philadelphia.[12]. Beachwood was a small settlement located on the Jersey Shore in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The site of the current town is originally from where Beachwood Point Lighthouse stands today and was first settled by Quakers in 1776. The first post office at Beachwood was established in 1825, and it stayed open until 1842. In 1864, Beachwood became part of the new township of Monmouth Borough. The population of Beachwood decreased during the Great Depression, but increased during World War II due to its proximity to military bases in New York City and Newark. After the war ended, the population decreased again as people moved away for various reasons. However, because of its location on the Jersey Shore and its close relationship with Points Pleasant and Brickfield Lighthouses, Beachwood has remained a popular tourist destination since at least the early 21st century.
