The Cliffside Park Coast Guard Station was established in 1895. It is one of the oldest coast guard stations in New Jersey. The station was originally located on the mouth of the Hackensack River and served as a staging ground for ships coming into and out of the Port of Newark. In 1902, the Coast Guard built a new station on what is now North Avenue in Cliffside Park. This station became known as the Station at South Ferry Road because it was located near South Ferry Street, which led to Cliffsides peninsula on Devils Island. In 1916, the Coast Guard moved its headquarters from Newark to Cliffside Park and opened a new building that still stands today. The Headquarters Building housed many different departments such as Signal Corps, Life Saving Service, Patrol Squadron One, and Harbor Unit Two. In 1951, when Hurricane San Francisco hit New Jersey, severe damage was done to both Cliffside Park and Newarkport beaches along with some loss of life. As a result of this hurricane, funding for coastal defense was increased by Congress and the Department of Commerce ordered all coast guard stations throughout America to build more fishing fleets and better equipped lifesavers (lifeboats). In response to this order, Cliffside Park's Coast Guard Station built two lifeboats-one called "The Scout" and another called "The Lady". In 1957-1958, The Lady developed engine problems after being used for only two weeks during summer vacation; thus she became donation number JG 3164 from then until her retirement in 1984 She remains one of NJ's most popular tourist attractions still running today! After years of service both as donor number JG 3164 & donated boat #JG3164,"The Lady" finally retired after over 50 years later becoming donation number PQ 9196 again!"

Cliffside Park is a small town in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,138 at the 2010 census. The name comes from Cliff Side on the east side of Lake Passaic. The town was organized in 1874 and named for Captain Fenton Cliff who had laid out the town site on land that his family had patented in 1794. The first settlers were farmers who built log cabins along the shore of Lake Passaic. In 1875, they voted to change the name to Cliffside Park after Captian Fenton Cliffs who had donated land for the town site and also helped promote it. On July 10, 1896, voters in Ridgefield Township approved a local option to rename their community to Cliffside Park after Captian Fenton Cliffs as well because he was so appreciated there. The first store opened in 1898 and soon became one of the most popular businesses in Cliffside Park. It closed its doors in 2003 but is still preserved as part of the town's history museum which is open every day from 9am to 4pm except Mondays when it's open from 10am to 3pm. In 1903, Clifford Avenue was built and quickly became one of the most important streets in cliffside park with many homes being erected along it including those of Mayor John Ladd and Mrs. John Harkins which are still standing today ( sorry no Google Maps street view available right now). There are also several historical buildings located within walking distance such as First Methodist Church (built 1893), Gertrude Obstfeld House (1906), Channing-Astonishing Playground (1905) and more! In 1910, Clifford Avenue intersects Route 11 near Glen Mills while other streets continue downriver such as Second Street which parallels Route 22 until it reaches CR 722 just north of exit 6 onto I-95 before continuing downriver again becoming First Street again until reaching Ridgefield Township line where it turns into Highway 287

Cliffside Park is a small town in New Jersey, United States. It was founded in 1829 by Captain George Clougal and his family as part of the Township of East Brunswick. The original name for Cliffside Park was "East Brunswick". In 1881, the township was dissolved and its land divided among various townships. Cliffside Park became part of North Bergen Township and then finally Paterson Township on May 1, 1950. On November 8, 1971, NJ Transit began operating the first suburban train to leave Newark Penn Station into Cliffside Park (the last stop before Paterson). The station closed on September 3, 1976. On October 17, 1984, NJ Transit opened a new station at Edison Avenue/Cliffside Boulevard in Cliffside Park. This station served as the town's primary transportation hub until it closed on December 15th, 2006 due to financial problems.
