Fairview is a borough in New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 21,242. The name Fairview comes from an early Dutch settler named Pieter FairVIEW who purchased land in 1695. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Fairview in 1695 by purchases from the Dutch government. Pieter FairVIEW made his purchase on behalf of his family and others from what was then Staten Island. By 1702, all of what is now Borough Park had been acquired by New Jersey and became part of its Aidbury Township. In 1764, when Easton Township was formed from parts of both Aidbury and Easton townships, Fairview also became a part of that new township but continued to be known as "Fair VIEW". When Westampton Township was formed in 1834 out of parts of several municipalities including those within what are now Camden County and Atlantic City, it included portions of Camden County as well as eastern Sussex County which lies between Monmouth and Ocean Counties on the southern tip of Delaware Bay. When these areas were combined to form Westampton Township again in 1838 it included all but a small portion of present-day Camden County including FairVIEW (the borough seat) and portions lying east, southeast and northwest thereof including east side streets named for early Dutch landowners: Northumberland Avenue (now called Livingston Avenue), Southumberland Avenue (now called Devon Avenue), Flatbush Avenue (now called Clinton Avenue), Harrison Boulevard (now called Lafayette Boulevard), Buckskin Alley (now called Maple Street) & Fishkill Road/Waltzing Creek Drive (now renamed Greenwood Street). In 1852 alterations were made to zoning regulations for municipalities newly formed inside Philadelphia County; this led to the selection by Borough President John Fenton III along with other officials then living near Center City as sites for two large industrial districts to be established southside withinPhiladelphia County limits – one at Spring Garden Rd., northeast corner current day Mount Airy Rd., site then occupied by Newtown Square Mall; the other at Walnut Hill Rd., southwest corner current day State Route 1197/Queen Anne Ave., site then occupied by Vineland Shopping Plaza.– these districts would become known respectively as Washington National Airport District No. 2 or Northeast Penn Central Railway District No. 1 depending on their location within Philadelphia city limits.– both districts would eventually merge into one larger agency known today as Philadelphia Municipal Licensing Authority or PMA The original town boundaries did not include much territory north or westward beyond Ridgewood Cemetery where later Willowbrook Cemetery would be built. This extension occurred primarily because members of the community voted not to join Ridgewood when their township was reorganized during World War II according to military occupation regulations which limited development east Of Market Street towards Chesterfield Heights PA while remaining open for business east Of Market Street toward Willowbrook Cemetery . On November 3rd 1865 referendum results showed that over 60% percent residents approved annexation into neighboring Gloucester Township which had just been created following Princeton University's decision to establish itself there rather than continue sending students back downriver to Rutgers University until after victory over Baltimore in the American Civil War . At this point most residents still lived within their respective townships although some people transferred allegiance from one township
The first settlers to the area that is now Fairview were English Protestants who arrived in 1678. The town was founded on a small piece of land that had been given to them by the Dutch. It was known as "New Milford." Eventually, the town grew and became a center for trade and industry. The name "Fairview" was given to it by one of its early settlers, who felt that it would be more appropriate to call his new community "Faire View."
