The Highland Park military deployment gift history begins with World War II. The park was founded in 1892, and during the war, many local citizens donated goods such as food and clothing to support the troops. In 1951, the United States Military Academy (USMA) moved to West Point, New York, and Highland Park became home to the USMA’s cadet program. Additionally, there is a small detachment of Army National Guard troops stationed at MCB that support law enforcement activities within the community. In 1875 Charles White opened an ice cream parlor on North Main Street which soon became one of the most popular spots for enjoy cones during summertime throughout Mercer County. The business continued until 1978 when it closed after over 50 years in operation! As the population grew along Manchester Road and elsewhere within Mercer County there were numerous needs that were not easily met by individual proprietors or local governments so a village form began to emerge as a result; this process included sketches, surveys and meetings held among township trustees and community members to develop plans for what would be called "A Better Highland Park". On December 5th, 1944 Dr. Wray Collins addressed a meeting of trustees stating that he had been working on developing plans for Highlands since 1942 when he first traveled through section of Highland Park looking for land for his new medical clinic – which later became known as Dutch Valley Medical Center! It took another year before elected officials approved the concept - but finally on July 15th 1946 Trustees voted to name their new town "HIGHLAND PARK" in honor ofDr.Collins!!
