The New Jersey Naval and Marine Command has deployed a number of ships and boats to support Operation Neptune's Spear, the military campaign in Afghanistan. The command consists of eight submarines, two destroyer escorts, three fighter jets, four helicopters and two amphibious landing ships. This year's deployment is the most recent since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The USS Princeton (LHD-2) was docked at Pier 21 in Jersey City on September 12th when it became clear that the Afghan military had been able to overrun an important part of their base. The USS Cumberland (LHD-1) was sent to provide security for the ship while its crew unloaded supplies from it and transported troops and equipment back across the road to Camp Rhino. On October 6th, a team of Marines from Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion 5th Marines boarded HMS Gloucester (LHDS-7) at Pier 21 with orders to search for Taliban members who had taken cover inside one of the barracks at Camp Rhino. They found only five insurgents; four of them were dead by this time. On October 10th, another team boarded HMS Gloucester with orders to search for any enemy soldiers or logistical vehicles that may have been left behind by our Afghan allies in order to disrupt their supply lines into Afghanistan. After finding nothing they set off again on October 11th with a new objective - find any evidence that Osama bin Laden or his al Qaeda network had been located near Camp Rhino. No luck! In total, there were six deployments by NJMC warships this year as part of Operation Neptune's Spear - three for training purposes only and three for actual combat against enemy forces in Afghanistan. Two other vessels have also participated in humanitarian missions: USS John F Kennedy (CVN-76) loaned its portside gunship capacity to help evacuate refugees from Homs during Hurricane Sandy; while HMCS Windsor provided medical supplies and personnel support during Typhoon Haiyan off Mindanao Island Philippines

Jersey City is a city in New Jersey, United States. The population was 25,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudson County. The first European settlers in what is now Jersey City were Dutch farmers and traders who arrived in 1624. They named their town "New Amsterdam" after the city of Amsterdam in Holland. The area that would become Jersey City was settled by English colonists as part of Bergen County during the 17th century. The land around present-day Jersey City was part of Newark Township until 1974, when it became part of Hudson County. In 1814, American Commodore John Stevens founded Fort George on Governors Island to protect American shipping interests off New York Bay from British warships. In 1821, he moved his base to what is now Union Station and renamed it Fort George Washington; this name persisted until 1828, when he replaced it with Fort Johnson (later renamed for George Washington). The fort served as an arsenal and post office from 1798 until its closure in 1865. During World War II, Jersey City played a critical role as a bombing target in Manhattan because of its strategic location at the tip of Manhattan's 33rd Street peninsula and its easy access to transportation resources such as planes and boats available only through those points. After Pearl Harbor, munitions production increased rapidly here; more than 1 million tons (1 ton=3 kg) of bombs were made here between 1941 and 1945 alone. Many factories closed after the war but others began up again including Ford Motor Company’s Rouge plant which produced Mustangs from 1951 to 1957 before closing down again due to market saturation; while other plants continued producing products such as plastics and aircraft parts until they too closed down during the early 21st century . By 1963 over 60% of all plastic manufacturing had occurred within two miles (3 km) radius of downtown Brooklyn Heights; however by 2007 this figure had fallen below 10%. However there have been some recent successes including Uniroyal’s plans for a new chemical plant adjacent to Iselin Beach that will create 3100 jobs – one hundred percent renewable energy – by 2021 . And also announced recently are plans by Google for 1600 acres (6 hectares) next door on Staten Island which will be used for research purposes only but could conceivably house another 2000 jobs if developed further
