The Lincoln Park National Guard was organized on July 1, 1915 as a result of the World War I draft riots in Newark, New Jersey. The first unit to be activated was Company A of the 9th Regiment Newark National Guards. In 1923, the 8th Infantry Division and Company C of the 10th Regiment Newark National Guards were combined to form a single battalion under command of Lieutenant Colonel George W. Brownell. On October 15, 1924, detachments from the 10th and 11th Regiments (now part of Brigade H) were consolidated with Company D from Newark's 2nd Battalion Essex County Volunteers to form another battalion under Major General Harry S. Truman's command. On November 7, 1934, all rifle companies in Headquarters and Service Companies were reorganized into platoons with ten rifles each and called "National Guard Platoons". The battalions were redesignated as brigades on December 1st but reverted to their original titles on January 1st 1935 when they became part of Majestic Army Corps (NAVY). After World War II ended in 1945, many soldiers who had served in Europe returned home and did not want to serve in any more wars so they decided to instead join the military reserves or national guard units that had been created at that time such as those found in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. In 1948-1949 there was also a consolidation known as demobilization which saw most units decrease size by half while still maintaining their nameplates and insignia. On September 25, 1951 LtCol Edwin Peele assumed command of First Brigade (NJNG) which absorbed Second Brigade (PANG) which had been disbanded since 1946 after its troops serving in Korea protested being given United States citizenship rather than just service members' British nationality like those who had fought for Britain during World War II. This change reflected Jackie Robinson's integration into American society which began happening during these years as well as increasing interracial contact across state lines due to newly opened airfields like Wright-Patterson AFB located within New Jersey only minutes away from some major cities making it easier for people from different racial backgrounds to mix together without fear of discrimination or violence erupting among them. Once Col Edwin Peele took over First Brigade NJNG he changed its nickname back to the Lincoln Park National Guard because this is where it originated from - near Lincoln Park in Newark - though its history goes much further back even before this date!
