Maga coffee has been around for many years in Long Branch, NJ. The first Maga Coffee was opened in 1978 by Angelo and Lidia Maga. Angelo started the business out of his garage and slowly grew it over time until he had a few locations throughout the Township. In 2005, Angelo passed away and his wife Lidia took over the business. She continues to run it as a family business with her husband's help. Long Branch, New Jersey is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Long Branch were Dutch colonists who named it "Langhena" (possibly meaning "oldenburg"). The name may have come from an Old English word meaning 'long stream' or ' broad valley'. In 1686, Governor Thomas Desborough of New Jersey granted a land grant to Increase Mather for his farm on what is now the corner of First and Second Streets in Long Branch. This began the process that led to the establishment of Long Branch as a town. In 1714, Nicholas De Witt granted 2,000 acres (800 hectares) of land east of present-day Borough Hall to John Woolridge and others for $1 per acre. This started the process that led to the development of East Brunswick Township which became Long Branch in 1834. In 1858–59, Isaac Pusey donated 1/2 mile (0.8 km) of road from Endicott Street northeast to Ocean Avenue in order to allow goods and passengers travelling between Bordentown and Atlantic City through his township to bypass Midtown Manhattan on their way southbound along Third Avenue. In 1875, George Washington Carver donated land including what is now Borough Hall Road and most notably Northumberland Avenue between exit 12A off I-95W and exit 13B off I-95E for use as a commercial center by farmers surrounding Great Meadows dairy business; this also connected Newark Airport with Middlesex County via Interstate 95W . In 1899–1900 Wm Halsey Smith built a dam across Mill Creek nearpresent-day Saddleback Boulevard in order provide electricity for local businesses; this provided one source of revenue for Borough government while also supporting industrial growth around present day Long Branch until amalgamation with East Brunswick Township in 1998.. Each of these places had a significant impact on the development of modern maga coffee culture. Maga coffee first started to gain popularity in Japan in the early 1800s as a means of enjoying fine caffeine drinks without having to leave home. This was thanks to reports from American traders who noted that Japanese people were particularly fond of hot and strong black coffees. By 1825, Japanese maga cafés had become so popular that they quickly spread throughout the empire. This successful importation of japanese java continued until around 1840 when an American trader named Ezra Taft discovered that Turkish immigrants were also beginning to enjoy maga coffee. This caused a shift in how Ottoman Turks viewed caffeine – now they appreciated its bitter flavor over sweetened milk/ffee products. As a result, Turkish immigrants began importing large quantities of Java beans, which contributed significantly to Japan’s current Maga Coffee abundance (in today’s currency). However, even after Turkey becameinoa major player in supplying Japan with Java beans, there was still little crossover between Turkish and English language use within Japanese cafes. In fact, many Istanbul café owners continued using English for business purposes instead – something that persists today among Indonesian and Malaysian friends alike! Eventually though, with increasing demand from both international customers as well as Javanese Muslims who wanted an authentic Islamic experience while drinking espresso or tea (the two main forms of traditional Javanese food), Turkish immigrant cafes started branching out into other languages as well: Spanish at Barcelona’s La Boqueria; French at Paris’ Rassemblement; Italianate at Rome’s Piazza Santo Stefano; German at Berlin’s Kesselhaus; Dutch at Rotterdam’s Oude Kerk…. The list goes on! Eventually all these new languages would come together and form what we know today as standard Maga Coffee dialogue: angkat siang / mataramu / bersamaan… etceteras! Some notable names associated with various languages spoken inside Japanese cafés during this time include Yaakov Nahmias (Spanish) & Akira Shimizu (Dutch), Yusuf Beyoglu (Turkish) & Osman Beyoglu (German), Ahmet Ünlü (Greek) & Recep Tayyip Erdogan (Turkish). Interestingly enough given their tumultuous political times back then - none of these cafe Owners gained any real notoriety outside their respective countries until post WW2!! 😉

Long Branch was originally a part of Jersey City. The first Europeans to explore the area were Giovanni da Verrazzano, who in 1524 claimed a discovery on the Hackensack River and named it Navescalerie (New Troy). In 1714, Long Branch became part of Perth Amboy Township. In 1873, the township was divided into two parts: one became known as South Long Branch and the other became known as North Long Branch. In 1916, both parts of Long Branch were combined into a single municipality under the name of "Long Branch". The population of Long Branch reached 10,000 by 1930. The Manhattan Project used Long Branch as its main experimental site for uranium enrichment during World War II. After the war, businesses started to revive in downtown Long Branch with new construction and redevelopment that continues to this day.
