Manville is a town in Union County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,752 at the 2010 census. The name means "man's house." Manville was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1674. It became part of the English colony of New Netherland in 1677. In 1764, it became part of Bergen County. In 1951, it became a borough and then a township. On May 15, 1998, it merged with neighboring West Orange into one municipality formed by merging the two townships and adding their respective villages as well as portions of East Brunswick and Edison Township to form one municipality with an estimated population of 18,574 residents.

Manville, New Jersey is a town in Hudson County, New York, United States. The population was 7,653 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudson County. In 1795, Manville was founded as a small farming village by Dutch settlers on the east side of Hackensack River about six miles (10 km) from what is now Newark, Delaware. In 1814 and again in 1827, Manville was the site of three important battles between American forces and Native Americans: Battle of Monmouth (1814), Battle of West Point (1827), and Battle of Pavonia (1828). On October 9th 1830 John Armstrong destroyed an Indian hut near present-day Elizabethtown with a gunboat called Gadsden which had been sent to capture Armstrong; this event became known as the "Armstrong Raid". The first post office in Manville was established on November 10th 1800 by Solomon Pratt. The name originated from Mount Vlachos or "Manavillo" which spanned most of modern day Union City and Manchester Township on Hackensack River where Mannheim now stands. The original house where the current Post Office building stands served as headquarters for several years before being moved to its current location in 1838. In 1852 Manville became an incorporated borough within Hudson County when it split off from municipal control over land east of Center Street in what is today Midwood Village section of Brooklyn Heights. On July 1st 1902 Borough President Augustus Haddon appointed James J Malone as Mayor pro tempore after his election victory over incumbent Samuel Wainwright II who had run unopposed for mayoralty. Malone served until his death on December 12th 1922 after serving one term with distinction; he is buried at Arlington Cemetery there with his wife Alice Egan Malone who also served as Borough President during World War I and WWII before she died in 1984 aged 92 years old. On February 15th 1960 residents voted 3-1 to annex part of neighbor Bergenfield without their consent due to concerns about their high school's capacity Phone Company officials threatened not to build any new schools if they did not acquiesce – this annexation led to public outcry and eventually forced them to change their mind two weeks later when school overcrowding became apparent at Bergenfield High School; however this annexation remains controversial because much extra development took place beyond what would have been allowed under zoning regulations at that time including homes along Center Street adjacent to Bergenfield High School which are still extant today despite no school usage occurring there since then
Manville was first settled in 1709 by Englishman and Quaker, John Manville. He built a small cabin on the site that still stands today. The town was originally named for John Manville himself, but it was changed to Manville in 1872 after incorporation. The post office was established in 1864 and remained in operation until 1959. In 1916, the town became the host city of the world's first international fair – the Atlantic City International Fair.
