Manville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Mercer County, New Jersey. The population was 5,853 as of the 2010 Census. It is located on the northern fringe of Newark, at the intersection of Interstate 95 and State Route 914. The area that would become Manville was first settled by Dutch and British colonists in 1712. In 1807, manors were purchased from the Ewing family by John Beal who laid out what became Manville on land he had bought from Nicholas Coles. The community grew rapidly due to its location on I-95 and access to markets in Newark and Elizabethtown. By 1922, Manville had a post office, school district, Methodist church, brewery and several businesses including an insurance company. In 1951, portions of Manville were annexed to Newark; these remains are now part ofElizabethtown Township. In 1971, the township merged with Elizabethtown Borough to form the city of Newark which continues to annex parts of ManVILLE each year today

Manville is a small town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Monmouth University and its campus in Plainsboro. As of the 2010 Census, Manville had a total area of 2.6 square miles (6.9 km2), all of it land. The first permanent settler in what is now Manville was Nicholas de Montjoye, who arrived from England in 1674 and founded the village on the east bank of the Raritan River. He named it "Montjoye's Mills" after his brother-in-law, Sir Nicholas Montjoye (1598–1672). In 1757, George Washington passed through Manville on his way to Princeton University; he inscribed a tablet at the local schoolhouse commemorating this event. In 1824, John Atherton opened an agricultural store in what is now downtown Manville with two acres (8 hectares) of land along Easton Creek reserved for him by Samuel Blaisdell as part of Blaisdell's gift to township residents following his purchase of 3/4 acre (0.2 km2) from Benjamin Franklin Sr.. The store operated until 1875; during that time period sales totaled $1 million (+$100 thousand per year). The Athertons were among the first settlers to come ashore on Long Island when they crossed over from Kingston upon Hull on December 12, 1664; their son Charles Atherton became one of Long Island's earliest landowners and served as its representative in Parliament from 1784 to 1789 and again from 1800 to 1802. In 1876–77, James Jepson built a gristmill on Center Street which he called "Jepson Bros.' Mill."
