The Middlesex County Regiment of the New Jersey Army National Guard was originally organized on December 15, 1776, at Perth Amboy by Colonel George Washington. The regiment was renamed the Middlesex County infantry on October 16, 1784. On July 14, 1793, the regiment became artillery and cavalry units when they were redesignated as the 1st Regiment of Artillery and 2nd Regiment of Cavalry. The regiment disbanded on September 3rd, 1800. On November 6th, 1861, the 1st Regiment of Artillery and 2nd Regiment of Cavalry were re-organized as the 9th Infantry Brigade in Camden County under command of Brigadier General John McClernand. They fought in various campaigns throughout Northeastern America until 1865 when they were mustered out and returned to their original state militias. Today there are five active companies (1st Battalion/92nd Armor), three Reserve Companies (3rd Battalion/51st Armor) and two inactive companies (2nd Battalion/27th Infantry). Additionally there is a museum located at Fort Monmouth where visitors can learn more about military history in Middlesex County.

The United States Army was founded in 1775. The first unit to be raised in Middlesex County was the 1st Regiment of Foot, which arrived in 1776. The county served as a battlefield between the British and American armies during the Revolutionary War. In 1815, Middlesex became one of the original counties of New Jersey. The New Jersey Militia was authorized by state law in 1777 and quickly grew into a formidable force during the Revolution. After the war, the militia disbanded but re-emerged during Reconstruction as an important part of provincial troops used against white supremacists and other radicals. The militiamen also played a vital role in policing and social welfare in postwar Middlesex County.
Middlesex is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 759. The name comes from theSussex Valley and Middlesex County area. The borough was formed on February 14, 1871, from portions of Perth Amboy and Burlington Township. The history of Middlesex begins with two cultures that interacted without collision for centuries: the Dutch and English. Dutch settlers arrived in what is now Middlesex County in 1664 and started a new culture while they were here. English settlers followed soon afterwards, but there was no interaction between these groups until 1701 when John Woolridge purchased 8 acres (3 hectares) of land at what is now Old Bridge Township for £4 10s 0d which he named "Middlesex". In 1727 he sold his interest to Nicholas Stiles who renamed it "New Brunswick". This name stuck because it coincided with Sir George Carteret's colony at present-day Newark–Jersey City. With this name came an understanding that New Brunswick should be administered as one unit so that people could trade goods with one another easier than if it were split among different townships or counties. In 1821, after years of conflict over boundaries between Perth Amboy Township and Burlington Township, Middlesex became a separate township by order of the General Assembly under Gov. James Ketchum Jr.. At this time most residents lived in areas east of Patterson Avenue (now called Woodbridge Street). Today most residents live on or around Patterson Avenue between Woodbridge Street and South street (formerly Westfield Boulevard). In 1881 part of Perth Amboy Township was annexed into Middlesex; this annexation created a municipal corporation which had authority to vote on town issues within its borders rather than having to go through the county government which controlled all other municipalities in Middlesex County save for Princeton Borough which was governed by a board chaired by an administrator appointed by Governor Ketchum II In 1905 parts of Princeton Borough were annexed into Greater Newark; this annexation created a municipal corporation also with authority to vote on town issues within its borders rather than having to go through the county government which controlled all other municipalities in Newark except for Camden which was governed by a board chaired by an administrator appointed by Governor Morrissey In 1912 parts of Rahway Borough were annexed into Essex; this annexation created a municipal corporation also with authority to vote on town issues within its borders rather than having to go through the county government which controlled all other municipalities in Essex except for Paterson where it was governed by a board chaired by an administrator appointed byGovor Christie

Middlesex is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 31,452 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest town in New Jersey after Newark. Inbound and outbound Interstate 95 run through Middlesex, making it one of the most heavily traveled towns in the state. Middlesex is also an important center for banking and manufacturing. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Middlesex were Dutch colonists who arrived during the early 17th century. The English took over from the Dutch in 1664 and began settling this area, which includedpresent-day Middlesex Township and parts of Essex County. The first houses were built on a hill near what is now Northwoods Boulevard and Market Street in 1668 by settlers of London's Acton district who had come to purchasing land along the Susquehanna River valley that lay between Philadelphia and Amsterdam (now Delaware). In 1714, John Woolwich founded Woolwich Naval Dockyard on present-day waterfront property at Southsea Island where he built his first shipyard; this facility became one of America's leading maritime forces during World War II as Navy Yard No. 1 (the "Woolwich" refers to both his shipbuilding enterprise and his birthplace). In 1812, Unionist sympathizers burned down part of Princeton University's campus during a riotous celebration following news of General George Washington's successful raid on Yorktown that year – an event later commemorated by Princeton with its own annual Thanksgiving Day parade downtown). The next year saw another riots when militiaFought pitched battles with pro-British patriots throughout central New Jersey following news reports of Admiral James Stockdale's failed attempt to invade Canada aboard HMS Guerriere off Long Branch on July 25, 1813 (the battle resulted in more than 150 casualties among British sailors while American militiamen emerged victorious with few losses)). These skirmishes helped lead Governor James Ketchum to call for military protection against possible uprisings by radical elements within society as well as threats posed by hostile Native Americans living east of Bound Brook Valley whose land had been ceded to Britain pursuant to Treaty #5 (Treaty signing at Fort Christina on October 11, 1784); these events ultimately led to Ketchum ordering martial law across much ofcentralNewJersey while European scouts monitored potential trouble spots The Arrivals: Dutch & English colonists MiddlesEX was platted December 10th 1800 by George Washington himself! At this time there were only 3 settlements within what would become MiddlesexCounty NJ - Allantown(present day Secaucus), Perth Amboy(now Hackensack) & Brunswick(now Maplewood)). On January 5th 1802 mapmaker Pemberton created township boundaries based off surveys taken from Lots 49 thru 53 SR#4 ! This was followed about 2 years later by lots 60 thru 66 all located just East side Of Route 9 !! This shows how Land Reform was going Gangsters wanted it all!! ha ha
