The USS Constitution was a ship of the United States Navy, which served during the American Revolution. She was launched on December 12, 1797, and commissioned on February 14, 1800. The Constitution served as the flagship of Commodore John W. Johnson in the Battle of Lake Champlain in 1803. She participated in several campaigns throughout her career, including the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1805 and the First Barbary War in 1816-1817. After serving as a powder magazine for CSS Savannah during the Mexican–American War, she decommissioned on October 15, 1846. She was bought by Great Britain and renamed HMS Victory on November 1, 1847. In 1898 she saw service as part of Admiral David Dixon Porter's fleet at Santiago de Cuba before being captured by Spanish forces and interned at Palermo Harbor until relieved by USS Raleigh (CA-15) on May 10, 1899. After being sold back to America she recommissioned on June 8th 1903 under Captain Ernest Jellicoe and served with distinction during World War I Mediterranean Campaigns such as Operation Anaconda and Gallipoli Campaigns On September 3rd 1902 Rear Admiral John Wyer sailed minesweeper HMS Eagle offload supplies for submarines off Crete when they were attacked by Turkish torpedoes(*). It is said that if it had not been for Eagle’s timely intervention then most likely all those men would have perished.* This event is cited as one of the first naval engagements between warships*The next day while Eagle was still offshore attacking another torpedo boat*,Wyer sighted an object ahead which he thought could be a mine but upon closer inspection it proved to be a Recognition Flag*.This flag signified British recognition that an engagement had actually taken place* On December 5th 1902 Wyer led his squadron against two galleys screening Ottoman Emperor Abdul Hamid II’s Fleet when he discovered them sailing towards His Majesty’s ships*. At this point both fleets had closed within range so close that fire could be exchanged only from afar* Then suddenly *. . . Middlesex County was formed on December 3, 1755, from portions of Hunterdon and Burlington Counties. Middlesex is named for the Middlesex River. The county seat is New Brunswick. The population was 134,574 at the 2010 census. Middlesex County forms the eastern border of Jersey City in New Jersey. The county was first settled by English colonists in the late eighteenth century as part of what became known as the Tioga District. In 1764, a group of Scots-Irish traders founded a small settlement called Newtown in what is now East Brunswick Township to trade with Native Americans along the Delaware River. After 10 years of growth and development, Newtown was renamed Middlebrook and incorporated as a town on May 12, 1768 under the jurisdiction of Burlington County. Burlington County continued to grow rapidly and by 1800 had reached its present size including parts of Middlesex County. On October 15, 1814, during Andrew Jackson's presidency, an act were passed that merged Burlington and Middlesex Counties into one new government under the name "Middlesex Township". Under statehood in 1911, all but 8 municipalities within New Jersey were placed within newly created Monmouth County which included most of southeastern Jersey City proper (the boroughs being annexed into Monmouth while still keeping their own municipal charter). This change left downtown Jersey City with only anecdotal Jewish or Italian-American presence until well after World War II when large numbers came from Manhattan due to postwar migration patterns; however these neighborhoods have become overwhelmingly black since then. In 1912 Middlesex Male High School opened as part of South Side High School (later Newark HS) merger which increased enrollments at both schools from 1st through 9th grades combined resulting in an increase in student body from 292 students to 679 students over six years; this made it possible for NewarkHS graduates to attend Rutgers University starting in 1916 – making Newark one of only two high schools located within NJSIAA’s old boundaries that continues offering undergraduate coursework at Rutgers today (the other being Northside HS). Newark also hosted America’s FIRST summer school program for pre-kindergarten children beginning in 1916; eventually becoming known as “Kindergarten Universe” which continues operation today outside NJSIAA bounds across Long Branch/Trenton RTE area
