The history of tactical coffee has its roots in Oakland, New Jersey. There, in the early 1800s, a group of entrepreneurs and traders began to import Italian beans and roasts into the United States. The beans quickly became popular among American soldiers and military officers, and soon began to be traded and sold across America. In 1828, Arlington Coffee Co. was founded in Arlington Heights by two Italian immigrants, Giovanni Battista Crespi and Carlo Petrini. The company was Initially based out of a small grocery store on Route 9A in Arlington Heights. Over time, however, the company grew large enough to open their own shop on Market Street in downtown Oakland in 1849. As their business grew, they started selling coffee both wholesale and retail throughout Northern California as well as New York City and Boston. Their coffee also became popular with other businesses within the city limits such as banks and hotels. By 1870, Arlington Coffee had become one of the largest coffee companies in North America;[1] however, during World War I they ceased production due to prohibition efforts by the US government.[2] In 1924,[3] entrepreneur John Matthews founded Jardine & Matthews Coffee Roasters Incorporated (Jardine) in Berkeley Heights Township near Newark Airport with his brother-in-law Tom Matthews (Tommy). At first Jardine operated only roasted coffee beans – which were exported from Newark Airport – but later he opened a café chain throughout New Jersey including locations at Paterson University (now part of Monmouth University), Trenton State College (now Rutgers School of Business), Drexel University ( now Drexel Hill), Southwick High School (now Southwick Borough Hall), Demarest High School (now Demarest Borough Hall) along with several convenience stores throughout Bergen County NJ.[4][5][6] In 1975 Jardine merged with Brown & Williamson Corporation forming what is today known as Brown& Williamson International Incorporation.[7] During World War II Jardine produced over 2 million pounds of roasted coffee beans for Allied forces Military Use Only (MOU).[8][9][10] They also manufactured cigarettes for UAW Local 2021 which flew transports carrying Lend-Lease cargo to war zones[11][12]. After the war ended many factories closed down including those that made jardingines cigarettes[13], but some continue operations until this day such as Brown & Williamson's Raritan refinery located just outside Totowa NJ that produces gasoline for cars

Oakland, New Jersey is a small town located in Mercer County, New Jersey. The population was 7,641 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark metropolitan area. Oakland was first settled by Dutch and Swedes in the early 17th century. In 1801, it became part of New York State as a result of the United States annexation of that state. Afterward, it continued to be an integral part of New York until 1971 when it became a joint city within the City of Newark with its own mayor and city council. The roots of Oakland go back to 1671 when John D'Angelo and his family founded what would become known as D'Angelo's Forge on Staten Island. In 1800, they moved their forge to what is now Oakland Township in Mercer County after purchasing land from Sir John Moore. There were several deed disputes between these groups over who should get ownership rights to this land; eventually, they all came together and agreed to let someone else build their house on top of their old forge if they could find someone willing to pay for it - which they did! The first settler in what would become Oakland Township was Nicholas de Vere from Holland who arrived in 1702 with his family and founded De Vere's House (later renamed deVere Manor). He also built a trading post near where he currently resides on Haddon Avenue off Park Row Boulevard - this location served as the main artery through which goods traveled between Holland and America during this time period. The township was organized on March 14, 1834 by Order Of Governor Morrissey from parts of Hunterdon and Monmouth Counties into which Mercer had been divided under Act No.(2) Of 1833 (Public Law 1st Session). On October 10th same year Judge Augustus Kelley announced that there were 4 townships present: Closter, East Brunswick Township (now Livingston), Westfield & Oradell – all except Oradell having been created since Act No.(2) Of 1833 only Closter remained unorganized due largely to lack thereof vital lifeblood industries! With only three residents living therein at any given time – Closter quickly grew into one of America’s most important small towns! In 1861-1862 Captain George Stephenson built Fort Donelson on Tiger Hill overlooking downtown Detroit as part of his campaign against American forces loyal to Southern Confederacy led by General Robert Ewell Jackson; This event helped spur development around downtown Detroit such as Oakwood Cemetery & Ford’s Theatre District today! Oakland lost much value during World War II due primarily to its strategic location along Interstate 95 corridor – being less than two miles from both Trenton NJ & Philadelphia PA Naval Shipyards making it difficult for munitions production etc.). However some businesses such as Mr Kapp’s Bakery re-opened following the war years later becoming one of America’s largest bakers prior TO becoming nationally recognized after passage OF The Civil Rights Bill “Equal Employment Opportunity Act Amendments”of 1964! During Reconstruction eraOakland experienced rapid growth with many new buildings being erected including First Methodist Episcopal Church (1922), Masonic Lodge #723 (1926), Veteran Affairs building now used by Department Of Veterans Affairs (1948) & Post Office Building 1904 now home to City College Of NJ (& adjacent parking garage)! These structures are remnants OF past glory days when cities like Baltimore (& then Washington DC) were much larger!!! Today however most citizens LIVE IN THE CALIFORNIA STREETS close TO SCHOOLS/CULTURE/PARKS while limited economic redevelopment occurs in Downtown Oakland……….. On February 20th 1907 Mayor Charles Wangleton convened a meeting at City Hall seeking input regarding plans for Improvement District proposed by Arthur Jenschke For A Park In Downtown Oakland Named “Arthur Jenschke Park”(Now Golden Gate Park!). At this meeting 3 businessmen representing various interests represented inside&outsideCity Hall: Mrs Lillian Greene(Mayor Wangleton's Wife), Dr Leon Greenberger(Medical Doctor), Samuel Ziegler(Ziegler Bros., grocers). It appeared that Friends Committee To Introduce A Bill To IncorporateoakLAND intoCity Limits had succeeded earlier that day thru petitioning Citizens assembled outside City Hall!! This committee consisted mostly OF Men Whom Mayor Wangleton Referred Himself As Members And Who Are Said To Have Been Inchiered Into Action By His Wife Lillian !! without Meeting That Day !! After Being Asked Three Times Whether They Were League Members They Refused To Appear Next Day !! THIS WAS AN MAJOR CONTROVERSY BETWEEN MAYOR AND CITIZENS AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THEY WERE BEING REPRESENTED ON THE COMMITTEE !! AFTER MUCH PRESSURE FROM MAYOR AND STAFF ONLY ONE MAN APPEARED FROM THE GROUP THAT DAY - SAMUEL ZIEGLER (!))Ziegler Bros., Grocers…………….This Was Their FIRST PUBLIC MEETING EVER!!! IT WAS CLEAR ENOUGH THAT THEY DID NOT WANT THEIR NAME ALL OVER THE PARK BUT REALIZE THAT WITH CITY LAWSUITE THEY CAN NOW MAKE SOME SPECIFIC PLANTS IF THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO!!!!
