The Palisades Park Air National Guard Base was established on July 14, 1912 as the First Air National Guard Base in New Jersey. The base served as a training ground for military pilots and air traffic controllers during World War I and II. In 1949, the Air Force moved its headquarters from Wright-Patterson AFB to the Palisades Park base. The USAF's Palisades Park Wing became operational on October 1, 1954. On November 15, 1957, the wing decommissioned at Palisades Park and replaced it with Continental United States Air Forces' (CONUS) Northeast Region Headquarters based at Newark Liberty International Airport. In 1992, CONUS activated its first ICBM squadron at the Palisades Park base –Operation Desert Storm II – which helped support Operation Desert Storm. Since then, CONUS has stationed multiple ICBM squadrons at Palisade Park; this includes two squadrons stationed permanently at Convex Point Missile Range on Long Island in 2006 and 2007 as part of Operation Neptune Spear. On December 8, 2009 President Barack Obama announced thatCONUS would be moving its fleet of Boeing E-4D Sky Train aircraft from Whiteman AFB Missouri to PALISADES PARK BASE after more than 50 years of service providing global airspace defense over Conus! The E-4Ds will be used by all three services to conduct airborne refueling flight operations between CONUS bases and Joint Expeditionary Task Force - Afghanistan (JETAFAG). This new capability will provide troops with critical fuel relief while underway in support of Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom!

The Palisades Park, New Jersey, is a public park located in the township of Hudson and within the borough of Manhattan. The park was founded in 1912 by Hugh L. Dickinson as a botanical garden on land donated by his father-in-law. The first structures were the Dickinsons' summer home, erected in 1914; and an amphitheater and children's play area built in 1923. In 1930, the park was enlarged with land from Westchester County to form what is now known as Palisades Park North. The Palisades Parkway (Route 9) runs through the center of the park, leading to its two entrances: one on Liberty Avenue near Interstate 95 and one on Fifth Avenue between East Harlem Boulevard and Woodlawn Cemetery. The main attractions of the park are its many trails that lead throughout its 785 acres (291 ha). These include a 17 miles (27 km) long nature trail that connects it to other private parks in Manhattan; basketball courts, tennis courts, running tracks, playgrounds and a waterpark; as well as picnicking areas located along several miles (km) of beaches. There are also four large reservoirs: Rumney Creek reservoir (), Millpond Reservoir ()near Sayville Village (), Hackensack Lake reservoir ()and Palmer Lake (). There has been much discussion about plans for Palisades Park over recent years due to concerns about its potential destruction by development or vehicle accidents caused by construction sites nearby. A new master plan for the park was released in May 2018 which includes increased attention to safety features such as crossingwalks and bike paths to make sure people who use the park have easy access to safe surroundings when playing or working outside.
