The family name has been used to roast coffee for over 100 years, and their legacy continues to this day. Today, the company continues to produce high-quality coffee at its location in Palisades Park. The history of fresh roasted coffee goes back even further than that; it began as an agricultural commodity used by farmers in New Jersey for centuries. In 1795, Dutch traders discovered cocoa beans growing near Weehawken; these beans were soon branded as "Rocco Coffee." Over time, other crops such as corn, cotton, sugarcane and wheat were added to the mix, until coffee became a key part of theNJ economy. By 1898, roasting shops had started appearing throughout the state – some continuing operations down into the 21st century! The Palisades Park area in New Jersey was first settled by the Dutch in the early 17th century. The land was part of New Netherland and was known as "Houtenbosch". In 1664, English colonists arrived in what is now New Jersey and began to settle on the peninsula. By 1685, the English had founded a fort at Hackensack. The Palisades Park area became part of West Jersey during the colonial period. In 1814, when New Jersey became a state, it included parts of present-day New York City. The Palisades Park area were annexed by Brooklyn, including Hackensack and other settlements within what is now Borough Manhattan, in 1835. In 1898, portions of Westchester County were added to New York City; these areas became known as Queens boroughs. In 1907, much of Queens was separated from New York City and become an independent city called Brooklyn; the Palisades Park area remained within Queens until 1959 when it merged with Upper Manhattan to form that borough's new financial district named Wall Street (nowadays Lower Manhattan). During World War II, many families who lived near Wall Street relocated to safer ground on Staten Island due to bombings raids conducted by Nazi Germany over South Brooklyn; this led to increased development around Greenpoint Avenue between Midtown East and Downtown Brooklyn which would eventually encompass much of what is now Parkside Heights and Woodside neighborhoods on Staten Island. Parts of Wall Street south of Harriman Boulevard were destroyed during Superstorm Sandy in 2012; this resulted in a large expansion for parked cars along that stretch which has since been cleaned up using funding from Mayor Bloomberg's NYC Recovery Plan program.
