The Ringwood Historical Society has a military gift history that goes back to 1812. That year, the General Assembly of New Jersey passed a bill authorizing the erection of a veterans’ home in Ringwood. The home was built in 1836 and served as an interim facility for the New Jersey Military Institute until it was abandoned in 1851. In 1865,Ringwood established itself as an independent city with its own government. That same year, Mayor James P. Long issued a proclamation Hancock had requested to commemorate the centennial of American independence. The proclamation awarded each township in Ringwood equal rights with those of incorporated municipalities within the state and authorized expenditures for “the acquisition and erection of suitable buildings for the use of the citizens of Ringwood.” In 1886, Mayor Abram Sennett erected a memorial to local soldiers killed during World War I at Griggs Hill Cemetery on Morrisville Road. In 1911, Mayor John J. Madden ordered that all public works within Ringwood be financed by assessments from property owners located along Morrisville Road. In 1913, Mayor Rudolph Hilsenbeck dedicated a new park at Belle Meade Circle after purchasing 50 acres adjacent to Griggs Hill Cemetery from developer Isaac Golding Jr.. In 1916, Mayor Joseph Fenton dedicated a large addition to Griggs Hill Cemetery which became known as Park Avenue (now renamed Doubleday Drive). In 1941, mayor John Biddle designated Park Avenue between Belle Meade Circle and West Side Boulevard as Regent Street in honor of both Governor royal George Washington Carver and First Lady Martha Washington Carver (née Jefferson). In 1956-57, ringwood established itself as an open-air shopping mall when it opened on ridgefield Ave between Southwestern Blvd and Central Ave
Ringwood, New Jersey is a small town located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The population was 1,584 at the 2010 census. Ringwood is known for its large orchards and apple trees, as well as its many historical landmarks. The town was first settled in 1784 by farmers from York Township, Pennsylvania. It was incorporated as a borough on April 14, 1868, from portions of West Monmouth Township. On November 3rd of that year, it became the capital of Monmouth County after being designated as such by Act No. 6 of 1871. The town's name comes from two early pioneers who founded the community: John Ringwood and his son James Ringwood Sr.. John Ringwood came to America in 1764 with his family and founded what is now Easton Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania; he named the township after himself and his brother-in-law Ebenezer Evesham. James Ringwood Sr., also arrived in North America in 1764 but settled near present-day Clearwater Beach on Long Island Sound where he erected a farmstead called "Ringwoods". He named it after his father-in-law Ebenezer Evesham's home village (now part of Kingston), Ulster County, New York which he had seen while traveling through that county on businessconnecting uponthe Great Lakes region with Albany and Niagara Falls via Kingston Harbour. James' farmstead stood until destroyed by fire in 1892; however, an account written by local historian Edwin Sauer does contain evidence that some structures still remain today including an octagon shaped house built about 1800 which once served as the post office building until 1962. According to the United States Census Bureau's 2010 census*, Rinkwood had a total population of 1,584 residents; 515 (or 33%) were non-Hispanic white alone; 914 (or 54%) were black orAfrican American alone; 141 (or 4% of all residents)were Hispanic or Latino of any race*; 361 households (27% of all households) consisted entirelyof individuals age 16 and over*; 2338 housing units (98% occupied) were owneroccupied*and 791 wereoccupiedby renters.*Noncensus figures show 810 residents livingstoneableunitsthat are not counted herein *. In addition there are 289 vacant buildings**

Ringwood is a small town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,664 at the 2010 census. Ringwood was founded in 1796 by Nicholas Ring and his family. It became part of the new state of New Jersey in 1814. The community was first settled by Germans as early as 1692. The name "Ringwald" meaning "ring wood" originated with this location. In 1814, whenNJ became a state, the area around Ringwood was included in Sussex County. After the sale of portions of NJ to the United States in 1821, Ringwood remained within Morris County until 1828 when it merged into Union Township. The local post office operated from 1796 to 1865; it was renamed to Ringwood on December 12, 1800. The first settler to come through the area were Nicholas Ring and his wife Anna Maria Schoenbrunner who arrived on horseback from Germany on September 25, 1796; they named their farm "Hohenschönhausen". They farmed there until 1800 when they moved upriver and built a log cabin known as "Huber's Cabin". These early settlers used hogs for food and caught frogs and other water creatures with nets which they stored near their home for Later use In 1814 Nicholas Ring married Catharine Browning (born October 8th , 1777 – died November 27th , 1862). Catharine came from an old English family that had dwelt near Newark since before Christopher Columbus visited America in 1492 AGO . Catharine’s parents were John Browning (born about 1550) and Deborah Putnam (baptized December 3rd , 1553 -died January 26th [1586]), both natives of Shropshire England . Her grandfather had emigrated to America in 1624 aboard the Mayflower along with William Fenton & others under Captains John Smith & Edward Winslow
