T Totowa is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,611 at the 2010 census. The name "T Totowa" comes from an early settler'sname, "Tommy" which means "owner of the land". Totowa was incorporated as a town on February 19, 1851. It was renamed to its current name on October 26, 1887 by order of the New Jersey Legislature after its then-president and founder of Atlantic City John A. Totten (1824–1892). The township was created from portions of Bergen Township on March 14, 1837; West Newton Township on May 10, 1840; and North Arlington Township on November 3, 1845. On December 11 of that year it became a borough within Middlesex County. On January 1st 1870 it regained its borough status within Middlesex County and became part of the new city of Newark when Newark became an independent municipality under state law following days of voting by residents in what had been Borough Day festivities. On July 12th 1896 racial violence erupted during a peaceful rally against discrimination organized by African American laborers working for white farmers in nearby Paterson when police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators

Totowa, New Jersey is a small town located in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. The population of Totowa was 1,541 at the 2010 census. The name "Totowa" is derived from the Monmouth County Dutch word "toter" meaning "to bury." The first settler in what is now Totowa Township was Andrew Goudreau in 1784. Totowa was incorporated as a borough on March 3, 1853. The community of Totowa developed around the old post office and hotel which were built in 1851-52 by Samuel Morton and his brother-in-law, Ebenezer Cook. It originally served as a stage stop on the Monmouth – Delaware Railroad. In 1914, the hotel burned down and was replaced by a more modern structure that still stands today. From 1916 to 1951, Totowa had its own school district; this system was discontinued when it merged with Littlestown School District #2 in 1951. In 1978, there were 1,711 residents of Totowa Township while the population of Littlestown Borough increased to 2,451 during that year's census. As more people moved away from rural areas towards larger townships and villages throughout Lehigh County during the late 1800s and early 1900s (a phenomena known as "the Rural Migration"), Totowan's role within its former school district gradually diminished; however, it remains an active community center with many cultural events each year thanks to its strong social infrastructure (based primarily upon volunteerism). Additionally - much like other smaller towns throughout North America - Tilghman Avenue along which most residents live serves principally as an artery for locals who visit nearby municipalities for shopping or other services such as banking or veterinary care; nevertheless - despite this convenience factor - most residents continue to maintain close ties with their surrounding communities through occasional visits or events held jointly with neighboring townships/villages/cities throughout Lehigh County every summertime.
Totowa was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Totowa and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after the original location of their home, which they traded with other settlers for land in what is now Totowa Township. In 1814, the township was organized and renamed to Northampton Township. The township's first post office opened in 1815. Totowan became a borough in 1908 and a city on May 14, 1912. On July 1, 1922, the city merged with neighboring Park Ridge to form a new municipality called Paterson.
