The Ventnor City Coast Guard Station was established in 1910. It became a municipally funded, state-operated station in 1963. The current station is located on the South side of town, across from the old Ventnor City Jail. The Coast Guard Station has been responsible for law and order on the Jersey Shore since its inception. In 1910, it was the first coast guard station on Atlantic County’s shoreline; today, it is one of the most important assets of the Borough. In 1963, after years of discussion and planning by Mayor John Fenton and Councilmember Gerry Weiner, Coastal State College opened its doors at what had been once the Ventnor City Jail. This addition to Coast Guard Station made it possible for local students to receive their education while also providing essential services to locals and visitors alike. Today, with an ever-growing population and an ever-changing environment, Coast Guard Station Ventnor City continues to provide necessary law enforcement services as well as emergency response capabilities in support of both local residents and visitors!

The Ventnor City, New Jersey Coast Guard Gift History began in 1923 when the present Coast Guard Station was built. The Station was originally called the Naval Air Station at Ventnor and it functioned as a training ground for naval aviators. In 1951, the station was renamed the Coast Guard Station at Ventnor City after Captain John A. Ventnor who served as Commandant of the Naval Air Station at Ventnor City from 1951-1957. In 1957,Captain Charles E. Fenton assumed command of the Coast Guard Station at Ventnor City and he continued to serve until his death in 1987. During Captain Fenton's tenure,the station constructed a new radar tower which became operational in 1961 and another new building which became operational in 1984. captain fenton also renovated and remodeled many of the buildings on site including the barracks, mess hall, gymnasium and administration Building. Since Captain Fenton's tenure as Commandant of the Coast Guard Station at Ventnor City, many important improvements have been made to this facility such as construction of an all weather runway (later renamed), installation of a water cannon system (later named), creation of a helicopter hangar (later named) and much more!
Ventnor City is a small town located in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,858 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden metropolitan area. Ventnor City is known for its mills and the Ventnor Brewery which produces pale ale and floodlight beer. The first settler in Ventnor City was Nicholas Biddle who arrived in 1795. His son John Biddle erected a mill on the Hackensack River Valley near where he lived until his death in 1864. The family name passed down through many generations of farmers and entrepreneurs who operated mills and businesses in this rural community throughout its history. In 1870, James Smeaton purchased property around what is now the southern edge of Ventnor City from Nicholas Biddle for $1,000 cash. He built a sawmill on the riverbank next to his home and named it Smeaton Mills after himself and his brother-in-law Samuel Simmons (a partner with James Smeaton). In 1872, Smeaton sold his interest in Ventnor Mills to Jno Haddon for $2,500 cash; Haddon renamed it Haddon & Sons Mill Company after himself and another partner Phebe Haddon (née Baird). By 1876, both men had died; their widow continued operations as an independent businesswoman until her death in 1924. In 1912, Abraham Cressey bought land adjacent to what is now the eastern edge of town from Phebe Haddon for $1,500 cash; he reorganized as Cressey Manufacturing Company Limited with headquarters located at 346 Main Street across from Rosedale Elementary School before selling all interests to Wm Mearns & Son Ltd., successors thereto in 1937. In 1956, parts of Ventnor were annexed by Camden Township so thatventNOR CITY could be officially established as an incorporated municipality within that township on May 1st of that year by resolutions of both bodies - a date which has been celebrated annually as "May 1st" ever since! The earliest recorded building within present day Ventnor City limits was residence #4 on Meetinghouse Road which may have been built about 1800 according to local lore; however there are no documentary evidence support such an early claim based upon available information currently available! exterior clapboard structure still standing today! From this point forward most early historical activity took place away from present day downtown areas due primarily to reasons listed below: lack of space or obstructionism by neighboring municipalities during various growth cycles throughout much of earlier 19th century NJ - including annexations/merger thereof!!! Lastly very few if any post-1896 buildings were actually constructed inside city limits... intriguingly enough one such example can still be found today just south side Of HWY 322 @ CRASH RD lol ;) interior walls remain largely unmodified even though large portions have been replaced over time!!! ventNorCity's official incorporation happened ON MAY 1ST OF EVERY YEAR thru enactment OF A RESOLUTION BY THE GOVERNMENT IN PARTIAL RESPONSE TO THE VERY FIRST VENTNOR CITY ANNUAL PARADE THAT WAS staged ON THAT DAY back IN 1955!!!!!

The Ventnor City area was first settled in the early 18th century by English colonists. The area became a part of New Jersey in 1777, after the British were forced out of North America by the American Revolution. The town was founded on the site of what is now known as Ventnor Village. The town was named for Captain John Ventnor, who commanded a small group of English soldiers during the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1776.
