Wallington, New Jersey is a small town located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The population was 7,564 at the 2010 census. Coffee has been brewed in Wallington since the early 1800s. In 1829, Dutch settlers and their families began growing coffee trees in what is now known as Old Bridge Township. The first coffee beans were roasted by Elijah Craig and Sons on December 12, 1830. At that time Wallington had a total of five residents and two stores. By 1840 there were fifteen residents and three stores in the town. In 1847 an American Express office was established in Wallington and soon thereafter coffee became one of the town's mainstay businesses. In 1865, John Fenton opened his own coffee shop in town which quickly became well-known for its quality cup of Joe. By 1895 there were twelve store owners operating within the limits of Wallington; all but two were Turkish Turks or European Jews who ran their shops under Ottoman Empire law with Jewish license plates until 1948 when they were forced to discontinue operations due to anti-Semitic laws passed by the new United States government following World War II). In 1925 Dutchman Cornelius Kapp set up his first roasting operation in Wallington which continued until 1984 when he sold his business to Angelo Rossi (the co-founder of Starbucks) for $112 million dollars ($ today). Wallington was a small town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. Wallington is named after Edward Wallington, an Englishman who bought land in 1777 and built a log cabin here. Wallington was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in the early 18th century. In 1795, the Township of Monmouth (now part of Union City) was organized from portions of Wallington and neighboring townships. The first postmaster for Wallington was James Caird in 1799. Presbyterian missionaries arrived in Wallington in 1815 and began converting the natives to Christianity. By 1830, most of the Irish had left and only a few Scots-Irons remained. The British Invasion of America led to the evacuation of American forces from New Jersey on December 13,1776; this event is celebrated annually with aannual parade through downtown Wallington commemorating that time period. On November 30, 1800, John Woolridge donated land to form what is now Borough Park as part of his donation to become Vilnius Township (now Easton). In 1824–25 Michael Hennepin opened what is now Dutch Bros., one of several stores located along Route 9 near where it crosses Delaware Avenue today. That year also saw construction begin on what would later become Penn Station—the first rail station in America west of Pennsylvania Avenue—and development around it accelerated thereafter as trains came into town for passengers and cargo alike from both Philadelphia and Baltimore via Newark Bayou (later Trenton Bayou). On October 20, 1829 Samuel Freeman married Sarah Greenough at First Congregational Church which stood on present day Market Street between Orange Street and Bridge Street (); their home still stands today as Freeman House Museum #1 . Sarah were two sisters born to Abby Alden Greene (died 1840), daughter of General Israel Greenough (1749–1827), major general commanding Ulysses S.
