Westfield is a town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 52,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia-DE-Pensacola, PA-NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what is now Westfield was founded by George Washington and his troops during the American Revolution on November 3, 1776. The town was originally called "New Market" because it lay near the then new market square inPhiladelphia. On October 2, 1787, Westfield became a borough from which it received township status on February 14th of that year. In 1814 when Mercer County was created out of portions of Middlesex and Monmouth counties, Westfield remained an unincorporated community within Mercer county and continued to be administered by its own board of commissioners until March 4th of that year when it became part of the newly formed city of Philadelphia as part of the consolidation process triggered by the creation of metropolitan areas in Northeast Pennsylvania and Delaware County. On July 1st 1870, Westfield became one hundred years old when a fire destroyed most all but two buildings within its limits. At that time there were only 27 residents living in what is now downtownWestfield with just over 10 businesses open for business including three banks; First National Bank (founded 1865), Mercantile Trust Company (1867), and Jardine & Hastings Manufacturing Company (founded 1892). It wasn't until 1902 when Jardine & Hastings moved their manufacturing operation from Summit Avenue to Second Street that downtownWestFIELD began to truly take off as an important commercial center for central Bucks COUNTY with numerous stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Pickerington Woolen Mills Inc., Macy's Department Store and many more filling up every day with people shopping for everything from groceries to clothing to furniture while also enjoying excellent public transportation access Just two blocks away stood Penn Station providing passengers with access to both types of trains: local undelivered mail trains operated by P&O Railroad Company serving commuters coming into Philadelphia via Reading Terminal station or general freight service provided by Erie Railroad company serving commoners traveling northbound or southbound through Philly This renaissance period came to a screeching halt on September 11th 1938 when bombings took place at both locations resulting in loss OF THE ENTIRE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA TO AN INCIDENT THAT LEFT OVER FOUR TENTS SET UP ON WESTFIELD STREET IN MEMORY OF THE DEAD AND MORE than SEVEN HUNDRED PEOPLE LOST THEIR HOME WITHIN TWO HOURS! Westfield is a town in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 23,585 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Westfield were Dutch and Swedes who came overland from New Netherland in 1664. They named their community "Westervelt" after the Westervelt River which they saw across the border in Pennsylvania. In 1702, a group of English farmers founded a settlement on the west side of Hackensack Creek called "Newtown," which became Westfield circa 1710. The township includes all of present-day Essex County as well as portions of Bergen and Hudson counties to the north and east. It was formed on March 15, 1814 from parts of Middlesex Township and Monmouth County. Prior to this date, these lands had been part of Sussex County. The name "Westfield" originated with Captain John Weston who surveyed land for Colonel George Washington near where Westfieldnow stands on October 25, 1799 while serving as captain in General Washington's army during the War for Independence under British occupation (the Battle of Saratoga). A large cotton gin was built by James Kline around 1825 at what is now Clintonville Road and Center Street in Westfield; it continues to operate today as an agricultural supply store known as Kline’s Market Place (Klining Ginseng & More). In 1865, a railroad station was built into what is now Easton Avenue by contractor Isaac Noyes; it served both local passengers and freight until 1959 when Amtrak took over service.. A post office remained open until 1963 when it merged with nearby Uniondale to form Southwick Post Office.. In 1969, construction began on a new high school campus that replaced Edison High School; this project eventually led to the current name – West Field High School – being adopted by voters in 1984.. After years of planning and fundraising, The Estee Lauder Companies completed its $295 million redevelopment project called “Everest” which included 675 acres (248 hectares) along Route 1 including 5 miles (8 km) of beachfront shopping plaza complete with a three-story glass tower housing luxury apartments/residences/office space,. The complex opened up shop starting in 2001 with more than 2 million square feet (190 thousand sq m) dedicated to retail shops/, restaurants/, movie theaters/entertainment,, health club/spa/, schools/. Although some aspects remain unchanged from earlier plans - such as access roads directly into Everest - many new buildings have been constructed including an indoor sports arena / concert hall /Olympic sized pool/, hotel towers/. With such mammoth undertaking only three hundred residents originally lived within “Everest” but due to rising population growth (+30% per year since opening), 300 additional residences were added within two years leading to even more living space available for inhabitants once activities centered inside “Everest” ceased.. By 2019 there will be almost 8 thousands people living within “Everest” having increased densities +800 jobs+600 units+400 lofts+. However despite global recession effects (-9% annual GDP nationally since 2009), sales activity (+6%) has continued unabated meaning businesses are still thriving outsideMRI roof deck!
