Mineola, New York is a small town in the Finger Lakes region of central New York. It has a rich naval history dating back to 1853, when the first steamboat called "Navy" was built on the Susquehanna River. Mineola became home to one of America's largest naval fleets during World War II and Harbor Defense Command, an agency that operated coastal defense assets throughout the Northeast. The town also played a pivotal role in ending World War II with its participation in Operation Neptune's Spear and the Liberation of Paris. Today Mineola is known for its eclectic mix of Victorian architecture and seafood restaurants, as well as its annual Naval Aviation Museum Annual Air Show.

Mineola is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population was 8,849 at the 2010 census. Mineola was incorporated on December 20, 1871. The name of the original post office in Mineola was "Mineola". The Town of Mineola plat and boundaries were laid out by George Paulding on November 9, 1827. The first settler to reside in what is now Mineola was Moses Green who arrived from Connecticut in 1825. By 1830 there were twelve families living in the town and by 1834 it had a population of twenty-eight people. The first school for children in Mineola was built on the corner of Main Street and Clinton Avenue in 1835 by Mrs Jane Everett and Mr Elias Fenton. In 1870, when Mineola became a part of New York State, it had a population of 672 people with three schools: one for boys (grades 1-4) at Academy Hall; one for girls (grades 5-8) at Pleasant View School; and one for colored children (grades 9-12) at Hope School which served until 1951. In 1901 there were five stores and seventeen businesses including three sawmills that produced lumber throughout the year - all within walking distance from each other. There were also two stores that did not have any customers during winter so they would close down but reopened during summer months when demand increased because farmers could no longer get enough wood to make their boilers work without bringing logs over from Canada ornaments such as spindles while still alive! It wasn’t until 1934 when coal started being mined here that things changed completely as construction began on the present day mine which opened up much needed revenue for the town coffers during this time period! A post office called "Mineola" was established at this site on December 20, 1871 under US Route 8 north of what is now downtown Mineola. The first mail received from New York City arrived here on January 2, 1872 with an order from John A Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company requesting “a quantity”of petroleum products be shipped through this portage! Mineola is a small town in the Hudson Valley of New York, United States. It is located south of Great Neck on the eastern edge of the Town of West Hempstead. The population was 9,716 at the 2010 census. Mineola has been called "The Village That Could" because it has few economic obstacles to its growth and high quality of life. Mineola was named after nearby mine, which opened in 1784. Mineola's history began with two families who started a farmstead in 1784 on what is now State Route 24 (now Mineola Parkway). The first settler, Robert Devereux, had come to America from England in 1686 and started a farm near present-day Mineola. In 1812, John Quesnel bought land at what is now State Route 244 and built a house there that became known as the Quesnel House/McAllister House. In 1814, Anthony D’Angelo purchased some additional land from John Quesnel and founded the first gristmill in Mineola; this mill operated until 1886 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1815-1816, Daniel Webster leased part of his father’s estate on Great Neck for $27 per year to build a school system based on public instruction instead of private instruction as then practiced in New York City. The Webster School opened on October 6th, 1815 just east of present-day Mineola High School campus and served grades K through 8th grade until 1955 when it closed because funding ran out to maintain it as an open educational resource statewide over that period. On May 6th 1840 Amos Eaton donated 10 acres (40 hectares) northeast of today’s Main Street between Old Mill Road and Killian Hollow Road to become Mineshaft Township; this donation formed part of what would become mineOLA#2D (@ 5/6/2018). Mineshaft Township was organized under New York state law on February 15th 1860 following approval by the legislature over disputed territory acquired from Ontario County following King George IV’s Purchase lands within that county boundary northward across Rockland County into Albany County during those years – see: NY Statutes at Large 1861 No 4 § 7 & 8 In 1862 Samuel Aitken donated 2 acres (10 hectares) southeast corner Main Street between Ridge Road and Killian Hollow Road to become mining township #2D (@ 5/6/2018), also forming partofmineOLA#2D (@ 5/6/2018). Mineola was founded by the Cayuga and Mohawk Indian tribes in 1779. The town was named for Mineola, a small village on the west coast of Long Island. The first settler in Mineola was Abraham DeHaven, who built a farm on the site of present-day Canandaigua. The town grew rapidly, and by 1825 it had a population of 812 people. In 1827, Mineola passed an act establishing schools within its limits. In 1865,Mineola became one of the towns in New York state that were annexed to Syracuse. Mineola has since experienced various periods of growth and decline, but it remains an important community today.
