In 1978, Commodore Donald Kapp gave a set of charts and navigation tools to the Coast Guard Station at Mount Vernon in commemoration of their roles Protecting our coastlines and maritime interests along the Eastern seaboard. The present day Coast Guard Station at Mount Vernon is one of only three staffed by United States Coast Guardsmen stationed abroad alongside British Forces (the other two being Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and Naval Air Station Sigonell). This unique relationship allows us to provide support for both US Homeland Defense as well as international law enforcement missions through joint training opportunities and cooperation with our NATO Allies including Sweden & The Netherlands

The Coast Guard gift history in Mount Vernon, New York began in 1915. It was through the efforts of Captain John Wesley Powell that the Coast Guard first became a reality in America. The first coast guard station was located at Governors Island and served as a ferry terminal for passengers and cargo between New York City and Staten Island. In 1941, the Coast Guard purchased its first patrol boat, USCGC "Plymouth" from the American Shipbuilding Corporation. This boat played an important role in patrols along the Atlantic coastline. In 1969, USCGC "Hancock" was purchased from ASEA Incorporated and served as a replacement for USCGC "Plymouth". Hancock is one of only five remaining icebreakers in service with the Coast Guard. In 1991, USCGC "Cleveland" was purchased from ASEA Incorporated and used as a backup to USS "Chester" during Operation Desert Storm. She played an important role off shore until she was decommissioned in 1999. In 2000, USS "Erie" replaced her as backup to USS "Chester". Erie has been serving as a floating command center for marine operations since 2006.
Mount Vernon is a small town in the U.S. state of New York, located on the southern tip of Long Island. The population was 2,098 at the 2010 census. It is part of Westchester County and is within the New York City borough of Manhattan. The name "Mount Vernon" comes from Mount Vernon House, which was built by George Washington in 1785–87 as his personal residence and where he spent most of his years after becoming President of the United States. In 1801, Mount Vernon became a fashionable residential area for merchants and their families on Long Island; it remains so today. The first settlers in what is now Mount Vernon were Dutch farmers who arrived around 1624 and named their land Nieuw Amsterdam (New Amsterdam). They were followed by Englishmen in 1664 who renamed their land Salem Plantation after England's capital city, London. In 1785, when George Washington became President of the United States, he moved to Mount Vernon from his home at Georgetown Court House on Capitol Hill in Philadelphia to take up residence there with his family and friends including Thomas Jefferson and James Kieft. In 1796-97 Congress passed an act providing for $5 per capita per year towards Building a Church on this same site which would ultimately be developed into St John's Episcopal Cathedral . In 1800-1801 Washington laid out roads through much of present day Westchester County to connect new sections of Upper Manhattan with Albany through Arlington Heights (now part of Harlem), serving as an important example for future presidents such as Andrew Johnson who also traveled using road systems like this one while still president during Reconstruction days thereafter. The importance defendant attaches to its religious beliefs cannot be ignored given that [the defendants] are situated near many places sacred to millions throughout America."

Mount Vernon is a historic American plantation house located in the town of Mount Vernon, Ulster County, New York. The house was built between 1792 and 1796 by George Washington and his wife Martha Dandridge Washington. It is a three-story, gable-fronted, red brick structure with Italianate style features. It has a front porch with balustrade and two projecting colonnades. The estate includes extensive gardens and orchards. The first president of the United States, George Washington (1746–1826), resided at Mount Vernon from April 1792 to September 1794; he then moved temporarily to Alexandria, Virginia before settling permanently at Mount Vernon in early October 1794. He used the home as his headquarters during his presidential campaigns of 1800 and 1804. On December 12, 1800, he proposed to Congress the creation of a national executive branch called the Treasury Department which would be headed by him alone. In 1801 he created the Ulysses S. Grant Bar Association in honor of Ulysses S. Grant (1784–1865) who had served as general during the War for Independence and as Secretary of War under President James K Polk (1845–1912). The original structure was reconstructed between 1951 and 1957 by architect Floyd McKimmell Jr.. The mansion was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972
