The Schenectady Air National Guard's 139th Airlift Wing provides airlift support to military and civilian missions in the greater New York City area. The unit has a rich history that dates back to World War II. In 1941, the 139th Aviation Squadron was activated at Chanute Army Air Field and flew combat missions against Nazi Germany. From 1944-1945, the squadron operated out of RAF Bentwaters in Suffolk County, England. In 1948, the 139th Airlift Wing was constituted as a Military Airlift Command (MARC) Unit and assigned to Ninth Air Force on Long Island. The unit moved from Chanute in 1951 to Drew Army Airfield on Long Island and became an integral part of Ninth AF's strategic bombardment wing. On 1 September 1957, the 138th Airlift Wing was activated at Ogdensburg Army Airfield and equipped with Lockheed C-46 Skytrain transports which served as troop Carrier Forces for Operation "Doolittle" during the Vietnam War. The wing also provided aerial refueling services for USAF bombers over North Vietnam during this time period. On 26 October 1970, when Ninth AF disbanded due to budget cuts, the 137th Airlift Wing assumed its role as an Auxiliary Units subordinate to First Lt USAF Ronald Reagan's newly created 41st Fighter Group (later 391st Fighter Wing). After being grounded for almost two years due to spare parts shortages caused by currency devaluation in 1973-1974, Second Lieutenant John Sieving's revitalized 141st Tactical Airlift Squadron began operations from Lackland AFB Texas on 15 August 1974 under First Lieutenant Seymour Hapgood III flying legacy Douglas DC-3s utilizing new McDonnell Douglas KC-135 Stratotankers purchased from Boeing Aircraft Company for this purpose; however these activities were cancelled when engines failed after only one flight test following engine failure previously reported with other McDonnell Douglas planes operational within limits; also first lieutenant Sieving lost his life while flying a McDonnell Douglas DC-10 named "Spirit of Stonewall Jackson". After being reactivated on 3 December 1978 under First Lieutenant Timothy J M Sullivan Jr.,141 Tac Aircrew Training Center deployed both Bell 412 helicopters & Sierra Hawks carrier aviation assets providing tactical airlift support throughout Southwest Asia during Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm qualifies as world class aircrew training center
Schenectady, New York (a city in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area) is a town within the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, its population was 22,564. The towns of Ballston Spa and Hyde Park are also included in Schenectady-Niagara Falls MSA. The village of North Schenectady is located in western Schenectady Township. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Schenectady on December 14, 1614 when Captain John Smith and his crew were ashore from their ship "Providence" at modern day George's Island to trade for goods with the Mohawk people who lived on nearby Cayuga Lake. The Dutch founded a trading post here called Batavia on January 24, 1624 which later became the capital of what is now New Netherland. In 1785, one hundred years after Captain John Smith explored this area and named it for his hometown of Schenecator (now part of Albany), General James Clinton moved an army from Canada across the border into America and took possession of this territory as part of the Treaty of Paris ending the Revolutionary War. At that time, most Europeans had left or been driven out by Native Americans who had taken over much of what is now upstate New York following their victory over American forces at Saratoga Creek and Battle Of Saratoga three years earlier. The few remaining Europeans began to arrive in small numbers starting in 1787 as events unfolded regarding those evacuated from Jersey City during Hurricane Sandy five months earlier…….. As new land was developed here under Hudson’s Water Companyuries such as Peter DeWolfe (the developer behind Niagara Falls), others such as George Eastman opened breweries and found success investing early cash not only in real estate but also areas such as textiles production that would soon become important hubs for manufacturing throughout much southern Ontario….. In 1815 DeWolfe sold all his holdings including Niagara Falls County to Nicholas Johnson for $1 million dollars………. It wasn’t until 1836 when scienced engineer Calvert Vaux designed a seriesof locks on both sides of Seneca Pass – creating one continuous flow through central NY allowing ships entering/exit at various points along both shores without having to go around any islands or rapids……… Conveniently situated just off Route 9 between Syracuse and Oswego make it an ideal location for grain storage especially during times when demand grew outstripping available supplies……………. By 1850 there were more than 1,000 businesses operating within Schenectady limits with industries including engineering, transportation/commerce/agriculture/manufacturing/, printing press production etc……………………………….. Today many thanks must go to our community’s entrepreneurial spirit which has led us right back where we started…..

Schenectady, New York is a city in the U.S. state of New York. The population was 1,996 at the 2010 census and was 2,146 at the 2013 estimate. It is part of the Schenectady–Webster County, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Schenectady were Dutch traders in 1624 who named it "Cattewater" after their trading post on Cattewater Creek in Albany County. A year later, English traders reached the area and called it "New Netherland." The first permanent European settlers arrived in 1714 when Michael Lazarus and his family founded a farmstead on Otsego Lake nearpresent-day Schenectady. From this small town grew what is now Schenectady into one of the most populous cities in upstate New York. During much of its early history, Schenectady was part of Albany County but gained its own separate government in 1812 when it became an incorporated municipality under the name of "City of Rochester". After two decades as a village,SchenECTADY annexed whole Webster Township (nowiland)in 1838 because that township had been created from parts of other villages east of Rochester by order of Governor George Clinton. In 1850, as part of Albany's incorporation into New York State as a resultofthe American Civil War, Rochester lost its charter and became an unincorporated hamlet within Albany County again until 1915 when it regained its charter as an incorporated city with full rights to vote and hold elections within City Limits (i.e., not within Albany County). In 1955-1957 Mayor John Loughlin ordered demolition or extensive alteration to nearly all existing buildings inside City Limits without giving any warning or opportunity for consultation with residents or those living outside City Limits; this amounted to arbitrary government action which violated both federal law and precedent set by previous mayors including Mayor Alanson Whitehead who had conducted similar demolitions during his tenure (see alsoLoughlin Affair). This episode has come to be known locally as "The Loughlin Years". On July 14th 1957 two days before Ford's running for office against incumbent Democrat Raymond Hylan resulted in violence throughout Upstate NY due largely to anger over Loughlin's orders - some individuals decided notto voteurning out potential candidates Ford won easily despite having no mandate from anyone - calling these purported 'inner-city' troubles nothing less than election fraud however Ford would go on to become governor only four years later
Schenectady was founded in 1712 by Nicholas Schenectady and his wife, Catharine. The town became a major center for trade and culture after it was granted land by the British Crown in 1716. In 1814, John Romeyn Broome moved to Schenectady from Albany, New York, and began developing the city into one of the United States' largest commercial centers. The city's economy grew rapidly thanks to its natural resources and lead-mining industry. In the 19th century, Schenectady became known as a cultural and educational center due to its colleges and universities, as well as its role in both the American Revolution and World War I. Afterward, Schenectady underwent several decades of decline that have been characterized by significant economic stagnation and population loss. However, recent efforts have restored some aspects of its former glory including an expanding arts scene and increasing popular tourist attractions.
