The history of the handgun industry in Syracuse is a long and proud one. From handguns made by Buffalo Arms Manufacturing Company to today’s Glock pistols being produced in the city, there has been a significant impact on the way weapons are used throughout the world. From 1892 until 1912, Syracuse was home to two gun factories- one located at 219 South Clinton Street and the other at 9 Downing Street. Buffalo Arms Manufacturing Company manufactured handguns from 1892 until 1912. Their products were distributed throughout New York State and even nationwide. In 1902, Buffalo Arms was purchased by Adolphus Busch company which continued production until 1954. During this time period, they produced over 1 million handguns. In 1911, Glocks were first produced by Glock corporation as a new product line designed specifically for police service pistols intended for carry purposes only. They were soon offered commercially to civilians as well as law enforcement officers across America (a first for any type of pistol). The popularity of Glocks quickly led to them becoming known as “America’s Favorite Pistol” according to some sources (Glock Corporation website). This success spawned several subsequent variations including .380 ACP (1911-1993), 9mm Luger (.45 ACP), .357 Magnum (1911-1994), 10mm Parabellum (.40 S&W) and 12 Gauge shotgun rounds called Federal Gold Medal Ammunition(FGM). Today, Glock corporation produces over 100 different products under five brands including G17 Gen3 pistols with BCM magazines that allow carbine length guns up to 17″ barrel; G18 Gen4 Pistols with no magazine or Taurus style grip; GLOCK 26 Guardian LAPIDER sights; GLOCK 43 Compact defensive pistol chambered in 40 S&W & 9mm Luger; Ruger SR9 Super Blackhawk Pistol chambered in 9mm Luger & Hertz ammo; and model RMR 1911 Tactical Carbine with picatinny rail system – all incorporating state-of-the-art design features not found on other models The history of handguns is littered with notable fatalities caused by gunfire incidents such as: gunman Slade Wilson Shooting death ruled homicide after leaving SIG P226 handgun unguarded guard's patrol car - November 15th 1994 shooter James Holmes shooting three people dead before entering Columbine High School - April 20th 1999 gunman Richard Reid flying into building using an unloaded Beretta 92FS pistol - December 14th 2007

Syracuse, New York is a city in upstate New York. The population was 729,405 at the 2010 census. Syracuse is the county seat of Onondaga County and the largest city in Upstate New York. It is also one of the most populous cities in Western New York. The first European explorers to visit what is now Syracuse were Giovanni da Verrazzano and his crew on their way from Caspian Sea to India in 1524. They named it Nouvelle Espagnole because they found new land south of Havana, Cuba. In 1614, John Winthrop led an English expedition to North America and discovered what would become Syracuse while exploring the Great Lakes region near modern-day Toronto, Ontario. The Dutch established a Dutch colony at Orange (now Albany) around 1624, but did not establish a permanent site until 1627 when they opened up Onondaga Valley for settlement by traders from Staten Island and Holland. In 1785, Benedict Arnold's force laid siege to Fort Niagara during the American Revolution; as a result of this event, Treaty of Paris resulted in British control over much of North America north of Montreal before French control re-established itself with Quebec City as its capital following Napoleonic Wars ended. In 1802–1803 James Kapp acquired 1 million acres (4 km²) along the southern border of Onondaga County from Aaron Burr for $5 million dollars just west of downtown Syracuse on Oneida Lake – one half mile wide and 350 feet deep at its deepest point – making him one of the largest landholders in what became Erie County east of Buffalo since colonial times. Kapp later donated this territory to Syracuse University through bequest originally made by his brother-in-law Cornelius Vanderbilt who had married Kapp's sister Anna Maria Schuyler Vanderbilt II on December 12th 1802. His gift included land that covers present day Central Park West between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Ave., which makes it one block long inside Central Park proper; Madison Square Garden located only 2 blocks north; State Capitol building across Constitution Avenue from Park Square; various college campuses including Amherst College (northwest corner), Clarkson University (southwest corner), Binghamton University (northern edge), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (central edge), SUNY Cortland Community College ( southwestern edge) as well as numerous other institutions collectively known as "The Village". Today part or all off these campuses forms Central Park Reserve which straddles both sides of Fifth Avenue between 59th Street NW/Wangari St./Church Ave./Everett Rd./Central Park West/Washington Ave./and definitions vary slightly - generally speaking it includes large chunks southwesterly Of 34th St./Jefferson Pl [NYCHA housing project] bounded by 5TH AVE EAST / MANHATTAN AVENUE WEST / CENTRAL PARK WEST [NYCHA housing project], 50TH STREET NEAR THE GULF OF NY about midway between 5TH AVE WEST & SOUTH REGENT STREET
