The Air Force Deployed Gift History Program was started in 1959 by Colonel Harry D. Callahan, USAF (Ret). The program is used to provide unique andhistoric gift items to military members and their families living in the United States of America. The current deployed gift history program includes items from the Vietnam War, the Iraq War, Desert Storm, and Operation Enduring Freedom. It also includes items from Operation Blue Jay II and Operation Noble Eagle. Since its inception, the Air Force Deployed Gift History Program has provided over 50 million unique gift items to military members and their families living in the United States of America. These gifts have helped make a positive impact on lives both inside and outside of the Military. In Hendersonville, North Carolina, one of the many areas that have received donated gifts from the Air Force Deployed Gift History Program is art. Artist Jeff Ziegler has donated pieces of his art to local schools throughout Central Carolina as part of a campaign called “Give Some Art” which supports children’s charities across Central Carolina. The United States Air Force has been deploying gift history for many years now. In 1984, the USAF's 1st Tactical Fighter Wing first deployed T-38 Talon fighter jets as a gift to the Royal Jordanian Air Force in commemoration of their mutual friendship and cooperation during the Middle East peace process. Since then, RAF talons have flown with US air forces all over the world, including Operation Neptune's Spear in Afghanistan and Operation Desert Storm in Iraq. Today, USAF RAF talons continue to fly together as part of NATO's multinational air wing deployments across Europe and Asia. The talons provide an unique opportunity for relationship building and interoperability between USAF service members and their international counterparts. They also provide a valuable training opportunity for RAF officers from various nations who will one day lead American fighters into combat.
