The Kinston Air Force Base is home to the North Carolina Air National Guard's 5th Bomb Wing, which leads the nation in deploying gift history. The wing has deployed more than 350 gifts to troops and civilians since its establishment in 1948. One of the wing's most famous deployments was a 2003 visit by then-President George W. Bush. The gift was a Humvee rental from Goodwill Industries International. It was used as part of an Army/Navy exercise that included flying over Asheville and other towns in western North Carolina for the first time. In 2007, the 5th BW hosted Operation Neptune's Spear, which saw 170 Gift History items delivered to troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Items include prosthetic devices, food baskets, water bottles, and tarpaulins. In December 2009, the Wing participated in Operation Christmas Tree with a shipment of more than 1,000 holiday cookies from Globe Cookies of Charlotte!

Kinston is a town in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It sits on the Pee Dee River and is part of the Raleigh–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Kinston Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. The area that now Kinston was first settled by Europeans in 1772 when Captain James Cook sailed through what is now Kinston Harbour on his third voyage Northeast from England. He named it "New Providence" after King George II of Great Britain's new colony of New Providence on St Kitts (now Nevis). In 1819, John Clements bought 640 acres (2 km²) of present-day Kinston from Nathan Bedford Forrest for $3,000. This land became known as Clements Hill because James Clements donated it to the town in 1892. In 1824, Nathaniel Dixon erected a mill across the Pee Dee River from where today's downtown stands. 1st US Census: 1830 In 1840 Alexander Henderson moved his mills to this spot and built a large brick house which still stands today as the centerpiece of Main Street near present day Durham University (formerly Fayetteville State University). Henderson was an early settler and one of Kinston’s most influential citizens during its early years. 2nd US Census: 1860 Kinston had a population of about 350 people when Abraham Lincoln passed through here during his campaign for President in 1860; he stopped at our local store before continuing on his journey westward! During Reconstruction – following the American Civil War – many African Americans were brought into Kinston to work in various industries including manufacturing and agriculture until desegregation began in earnest throughout much of South Carolina during the late 1960s/early 1970s under pressure from civil rights organizations such as Students for Justice In America (SJA) and Black Panther Party chapters at universities such as UNC Chapel Hill and Clemson University prior to national legislation mandating integration beginning with busing initiatives starting with Little Rock Central High School (LRCHS) back home in Arkansas circa 1969/70! After more than 40 years since those earliest days within central NCDRK over 7500 residents have resided & continue actively engaged here thanks largely to some hard working city council members who have been there every step along way!
The army was not the only institution that fielded its own gift history. The air force also had a significant gift history. The first airplane to be purchased by the air force was an American F2A-3 Kittyhawk, which was donated to the service in 1941 by Colonel Charles Lindbergh. Other notable airplanes and helicopters that have been donated or given to the air force include two MiG-15s, three RC-135s, and two AH-64 Apache helicopters. One of the most famous Air Force deployments is Operation Desert Storm, during which over 50,000 military personnel participated in what is considered one of the most successful military campaigns in U.S. history. This campaign saw some of the most advanced equipment and technology ever used in warfare: tanks, artillery, jets and missiles were all employed in order to achieve victory over Hussein’s forces. One of the main gifts given to members of the military during this campaign was an F-14 Tomcat fighter jet from Lockheed Martin Corporation.

Kinston is a city in Bertie County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham–Fayetteville metropolitan area. The history of Kinston and its people can be traced back to 1868 when the town was founded by Scots-Irish settlers on land that had been part of Bertie County before it was split off from Nags Head County. The town name comes from the Irish word "kinso" meaning "a place where pigs are pastured." The first store in Kinston opened in 1868 and local farmers soon began to sell goods such as pork, milk, eggs, butter and flour to residents of nearby Raleigh and Durham. In 1875, brick buildings were built for the town's first school and post office. Over time, other businesses such as a quarry and sawmill became established in Kinston. By 1910Kinston had a population of 6,500 people with 4 cotton gin plants (the last being closed down in 1970), a total of 106 stores including 30 banks (9 national) and 84 other businesses. During World War IIKinston played an important role as one of four military supply centers for Allied forces fighting Nazi Germany across Europe. After the war, many businesses closed down but new ones started up such as PNC Bank which continues to operate today as one of North Carolina's largest employers. In recent yearsKinston has undergone several redevelopment projects which have increased its attractiveness to both locals and visitors alike including new housing development; restaurants; attractions like a 5-acre waterpark; major league baseball games; and concerts by popular artists like U2 or Bruce Springsteen
