It was called the Station No. 9 and it served as a wharf for shipping arriving from out of state. In 1951, the Coast Guard Station Laurinburg was moved to its current location on the waterfront and it became an all-boys school. In 1969, girls were admitted to the school and it changed its name to Coastal Carolina University School of Education and Colleges. In 1984, Coastal Carolina University became a public university and the school of education merged with Coastal Carolina University School of Law. The name change again happened in 1992 when Coastal Carolina University acquired our current campus located at 701 Dock Street in downtown Laurinburg. Laurinburg is a small town in Randolph County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 706 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fayetteville–Springdale, NC-VA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Laurinburg is east of Fayetteville and west of Morganton. It was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1828 as a stop on the Underground Railroad. The first post office in Laurinburg was established in 1829, and it continued to operate until 1865. In 1881, Laurinburg became the seat of Randolph County. At that time, it had a population of just over 100 people. However, by 1920 Laurinburg had swollen to 1,500 residents and quickly grew into an important community with its own schools and businesses. In 1951, Laurinburg became the site of what would become one of the most significant events in its history – the Battle for Laurinburg Station during World War II. During that conflict, Confederate forces attacked Union troops stationed nearby while they were preparing to celebrate Independence Day at Fort Bragg; consequently, much damage was done to property in and around central town including several homes on Main Street which still stand today (although not used as residences anymore). The battle resulted in about 50 Confederate casualties along with 5 Union soldiers killed or wounded. This event helped solidify local support for the Confederacy throughout World War II and laid the groundwork for future military engagements between North Carolina and Georgia over constituent rights issues

However, Laurinberg has continued to exist as an important center for education and industry since then.
Laurinburg was founded in 1792 by Captain John Laurin and his family. The first white settlers in Laurinburg were the Wofford brothers, who arrived in 1794. In 1819, Colonel Nathaniel Pope brought over a group of soldiers to help secure an area for development around the new town. Over time, many other families also began to arrive and settle in Laurinburg. The townspeople soon started to build a community around their new home, which included a school, post office, stores and homes. By 1830, Laurinburg had become a thriving town with a population of about 100 people. In 1845, the Union Army under General Jubal Early invaded North Carolina during the American Civil War. While small numbers of residents fought on both sides, most of Laurinburg sided with the Confederate forces. This caused much damage to the town and its infrastructure; however, it ultimately helped save Laurinburg from total destruction. After the war ended in 1865, many veterans returned home and started businesses in Laurinburg. This led to increased growth and prosperity for the town until World War II when things changed again – this time for good! For more than fifty years, Laurinburg has been an important center for trade and commerce within North Carolina's borders.
