In 1865, she was decommissioned and sold for scrap metal to Bethlehem Steel Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1932, the USS Constitution Museum Incorporated was founded in Pinehurst with a goal of preserving and exhibiting artifacts from the USS Constitution Museum located at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Pinehurst is a small town in Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,946 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greensboro-High Point Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pinehurst is located on the South Carolina border and shares borders with High Point to the east and Wilson to the west. The early history of Pinehurst can be traced back to 1821 when two men named James and John Swann arrived in what is now Forsyth County from Spartanburg, SC. They were among the first white settlers in this area and built a cabin near present day Pinehurst on a site that later became known as Old Baldy Hill. In 1825, they married Lydia Ann Goodloe and settled down in what became their home parish. For many years they raised livestock, grain, potatoes and chickens on their land until lumbering came along and took over much of their activity. By 1892 there were only ten people living in Pinehurst; by 1918 there were sixty-seven residents! The post office was established here in 1865 but it did not stay long before being moved to Greenville due to its importance within the community! In 1728, a group of pioneers from North Carolina settled on the Pinehurst Plantation. The original owners were Colonel James Smith and his wife Esther. In 1771, Colonel John Sevier bought the plantation from Esther and continued to run it as a separate entity until 1807 when he sold it to General James Moore. He then passed it on to his son, General James Moore's son-in-law, Colonel Parke Custis. They continued to run it until 1811 when they sold it to John Randolph who renamed it "Randolph Farm." It passed through several hands before being acquired by the Johnston family in 1886. They kept it until 1947 when it was donated to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as part of its Morrill land grant program.
