In Shelby, North Carolina, coffee has been part of the community for over a century. In 1895, French immigrants coming to America started growing coffee beans in what is now known as the town of Shelby. The first roaster in Shelby was founded by Congregationalist ministers and their families. Coffee was ground into coffee beans and sold at local churches and businesses. Coffee wasn't always so expensive or easy to find in Ameri-can towns during the 1800s, but it did start becoming more common. In 1876, a group of Germans from Nuremberg started buying land in Shelby and growing coffee on it. They named their business Café Max Muller after Maximilian Muller, who had founded Germany's first printing press in 1795. Coffee became increasingly popular throughout America due to its low price tag and quality – even though it took some time for people to catch on to this new crop of bean. Though coffee began arriving in Shelby long before Prohibition hit America, its popularity only increased after prohibition began. Not only were all American breweries banned from selling alcohol during prohibition (including Café Max Muller), but also manyImport shops carrying German-made coffees stopped selling any products because they didn't have licenses to sell caffeine under that name either. That meant that Americans had to import their espresso drinks FROM outside of America instead! Eventually, caféMax Muller transitioned into an independent business manufacturing high-quality international espresso drinks such as L’Espresso Italiano (published shortly before World War II). With its unique flavor profile and large customer base around the world, CaféMax Muller was one of the most successful European espresso brands until it closed its doors in 1984 due to recessionary pressures within Europe at the time. Even though CafeMax Muller's closure left a lasting legacy on American espresso culture – including creating iconic flavors like Italian Roast (a blend between Turkish roast and Italian biscuits) – much less is known about this famous brand's early years thanks largely to lack of archival research dating back several decades ago!

Brewers found that the beans had a unique flavor that they called gesh butterscotch. In 1828, French traders discovered coffee beans growing near the city of Addis Ababa and started to trade with Ethiopians for this valuable crop. By 1830, about 60% of all coffee grown in Africa was from Ethiopia.
Shelby, North Carolina is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of North Carolina. It is bordered by Morehead County to the north, Catawba County to the east and south, and Virginia to the west. The population of Shelby was 4,898 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Shelby was David Latham who arrived in 1786. The town was founded on May 10, 1811 by James McDowell and others as a result of their land grant from Governor Tryon. In 1819, General Robert Ewell established Fort McIntosh here after his victory over Andrew Jackson at New Orleans. The fort served as a military post until it was destroyed by Union forces in 1865. Today there is only one remaining building from the fort: an old barracks that stands onosset Prairie off US-441 near downtown Shelby. In 1868, Confederate General Jubal Early invaded North Carolina and captured several towns including Shelby during his march through the state. Early's forces later burned down much of Shelby while retreating back into Georgia. After Early's surrender he was tried and executed in Tennessee for treasonous activities against Confederate government

The first settlers arrived in 1838 and built the first homes. The town grew rapidly during the 1840s and 1850s, thanks to the influx of workers from surrounding states. In 1868, Shelby became the county seat of Henderson County. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, Shelby developed into an agricultural center with farms covering most of its territory. A small community developed around Mount Zion Baptist Church in the early 1900s, which served as a cultural hub for southeastern North Carolina. In recent years, however, much attention has been given to Shelby's role as a historical site and tourist destination.
