Bixby, Oklahoma is a small town located in the panhandle of Oklahoma. The population was 5,582 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The first settlers in Bixby were farmers who arrived in 1872. By 1907, there were only two families living in Bixby. In 1920, a post office was established and by 1930, there were ten residents living in Bixby. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, many people fled to Texas due to the Panic of 1893. Many Texans moved into what is now eastern Oklahoma because it was open land then and had low taxes. The townspeople decided not to follow this trend and grew their community accordingly. In 1962, when Tulsa City limits were expanded westward, Bixby became an official city with its own police department and fire department. In 1984, when Tulsa annexed most of Muskogee County (including downtown), Bixby became an unincorporated community within Tulsa again with its own fire department and police department

Bixby is a town in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,847 at the 2010 census. Bixby is one of the few remaining communities in Haskell County that was founded before 1907. The town of Bixby was founded on October 8, 1907 by James H. Witherspoon and his wife Florence Gadsden. The original name for the town was "Bixby", but it changed to "Haskell" after Haskell County was created in 1907 from part of Haskell Township. In 1916, the first school in Bixby opened with twelve students. In 1927, a new high school (now called "Hagerman High School") opened and became an important educational resource for the community until its closure in 2002. In 1929, a large oil well were drilled near Bixby and production began immediately; this led to increased traffic and development around the small town. The well later proved to be unsuccessful and produced no oil until 1986 when it finally been shut down due to environmental concerns caused by underground methane leakage from the well headings
The first settler in Bixby, Oklahoma was J.F. White. He arrived on a ranch in 1881 and built the first house on the current site of the City of Bixby. The town was chartered in 1907 and named after Hays County Commissioner William Bixby. In 1909, the city had a population of just over 100 people and it consisted of a few homes and a store. By 1915, when the city was renamed to its present name, it had grown to 1,000 people and included a school, hospital, post office, stockyards and more than 20 businesses. The city’s growth continued through the 1920s and 1930s with an increase in population to 3,500 people by 1940. During World War II, Bixby played an important role as an airfield for Allied forces during the war effort. The city reached its peak population size of 7,000 residents in 1960 before declining slightly to 6,700 residents by 1970
