The Chickasha Naval Ship Museum is a nonprofit organization that preserves and displays the history of the U.S. Navy's ships in Chickasha, Oklahoma. The museum was founded in 1984 by Rear Admiral T.J. Power and Lieutenant Commander Kip Hutton with the goal of educating the community about naval ship history and preserving artifacts from when USS John F Kennedy (CV-8) was docked at Chickasha Naval Base during World War II. The museum has three main exhibits: USS Constitution Museum Exhibit, USS Perry Museum Exhibit, and USS Russell Museum Exhibit. The USS Constitution Museum Exhibition features artifacts from the American Revolution through World War II including cannons, uniforms, Ships' Logs, Photographs, Documents, etc.; while the USS Perry Museum exhibit features artifacts from the Mexican-American War through World War II including cannons, uniforms, Ships' Logs, Photographs etc.; and finally the USS Russell Museum exhibit features artifacts from the Korean War through World War II including cannons, uniforms, Ships’ Logs

The Chickasha Naval Militia was organized on May 4, 1907. The organization was made up of naval reservists who had been called to active duty in the Mexican–American War and Spanish American War. The militia served as a unit within the Oklahoma National Guard from 1907 until 1959. In 1959, the Naval Militia was disbanded and its members were transferred to the Oklahoma State Guard.
Chickasha is a small town in Oklahoma, United States located on the east border of the state. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Chickasha is part of the union of Tulsa and Muskogee counties. The current community was founded in 1881 as a result of several wagon trains coming through from Arkansas by way of Tulsa. It was named for General George Fayette Wortham, who had been governor of that state at the time. The first post office in Chickasha was opened in 1883. In 1907, Chickasha became an incorporated village and experienced significant growth due to its proximity to Tulsa and its role as a center for agricultural production and trade. In 1928, it merged with Muskogee County to form Tulsa County Government which still operates today as one Component Unit with responsibility for all aspects of local government including education, law enforcement, infrastructure development (roads/paving/water), economic development (job creation/training), zoning authority and other services statewide.
