Duncan, Oklahoma is a small town located in the panhandle of Oklahoma. The population of Duncan was 1,859 at the 2010 census and it is now considered a suburb of Tulsa. In 1907, a Mr. John Witherspoon opened his first coffee shop in Duncan. At that time, coffee beans were ground fresh and roasted onsite. The first cup of Joe was brewed by Mrs. Witherspoon and it cost $1.25 per cup! Today, Mr. John's Coffee remains one of the most popular businesses in Duncan with over 20 years of history! In 1969, the first Starbucks opened its doors in downtown Duncan! At that time, Starbucks was known as 'The Coffee Shop'. In 2002, Starbucks closed down their business due to financial difficulties. However, they reopened under new ownership in 2013 and continue to serve up great coffee today!

Duncan and named for his father-in-law, James Hargrave Duncan. In 1907 the city of Duncan was platted and located near what is now downtown Duncan; the city moved to its present location in 1959. The city's first mayor was Drs. Jocklin and Smith. Duncan is home to two universities: University of Central Arkansas (UCA) and Oral Roberts University (Oral Roberts). UCA has branches in Tulsa and Dallas/Fort Worth area while Oral Roberts has a branch in Wichita Falls, Texas

The city's economy leans heavily upon agriculture; it produces corn and other grains, soybeans and wheat, oilseed crops such as cotton and canola, meat products such as hogheads and hogs, dairy products such as milk and cheese.,and timber. Duncan is perhaps best known for its Duncan Dunes National Monument which has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

He introduced coffee to Europe and made it an important part of European breakfast culture.
Duncan was founded in 1907 by General James Dunlop and his wife Emma. The town was named after the Dunlop Ranch, which was then located in what is now Muskogee County, Oklahoma. Duncan became a railway center due to its location along the Santa Fe Railway. The first store opened in Duncan in 1909. In 1912, Duncan had its first post office and within five years it had a school, two churches and four businesses. By 1915, there were twenty-one residents living in the town of Duncan. In 1922, the United States Postal Service organized a mail service from Tulsa to Duncan which lasted until 1970.Duncan also became an important agricultural center during this time with many farmers moving their operations to the town for easier access to land and greater production opportunities. In 1969, the Kiamichi Oil Field was discovered at nearby Logan Lake and as a result much economic growth took place around that area including the development of new housing developments such as Eagle Hills Village and Parkview Village. This led to increased traffic on Highway 66 which caused problems for local officials who were trying to maintain infrastructure necessary for continued business activity without taking away from daily life experiences for residents. The issue finally came to light when photographs surfaced of improved facilities being built outside of town while people were still living within earshot of them; this led to massive protests by local citizens who wanted their voices heard above those associated with oil companies
