A post office was established at Enid on October 12, 1836, by order of President Andrew Jackson. In 1907, Enid became an independent city and remained so until it merged with nearby Tulsa on January 1, 2003. In 1902, Dr. John Pemberton erected a school building for his students in what would become the downtown area of Enid. This building still stands today as one of the oldest buildings in town. Dr. Pemberton was also responsible for funding many other important civic organizations such as the First Methodist Church (now known as Central United Methodist) which was built in 1908 and now houses a library; and the first grocery store in town - J C Hargrave's - which opened its doors on December 30th 1909! After World War I ended there were few job opportunities available for people in rural America so many emigrated to find work during and after WWI including many women who started their own businesses around this time like Nellie Barnes who ran a dress shop; Mildred Hogg who operated a bakery; Lillie Mae Metzger who operated a gas station; Sister Alice Coleman run her convent out of her home until she closed it down due to lack of customers after serving over thirty years with distinction! Downtown Enid experienced some major changes during prohibition when bootlegging began becoming more prevalent due to the increasing demand for alcohol being generated by business owners along Highway 66 south from Tulsa! Businesses like Al Capone's speakeasy leased space from local farmers just outside Tulsa to sell liquor! Many residents worked long hours underground while others took advantage of organized crime to get their hands on illegal booze! Bootlegging ceased abruptly once Prohibition ended but not before causing significant social unrest that continues today into present day

Enid, Oklahoma is a small town in Northeastern Oklahoma located on the east side of the US-Mexico border. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census and 4,191 in 2018. It is part of Muskogee County. Enid was founded as an agricultural community in 1881 by James Fenton and other settlers from Illinois. In 1907, Enid became the site of the first international airmail flight between Muskogee and Tulsa (then Oklahoma City). The flight was made by US Air Force Colonel Harley Kilbourne with his Lockheed Electra II aircraft. In 1912, construction began on what would become the State Capitol which still stands today. In 1923, Enid became home to its first post office when it opened at 7th Street and Eastern Avenue. The city's economy changed significantly after World War II when federal government jobs moved intoEnid from elsewhere in the country. Manufacturing companies such as Ford Motors and Chrysler built plants here during this time period. However, these businesses failed afterthe war ended and Enid lost much of its manufacturing base.
