Enid is a small town in the US state of Oklahoma. The population was 1,838 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Enid River and lies within Stephens County. The name "Enid" comes from the Choctaw word "eni", meaning "river." The first settler in what is now Enid was George Bird Griggs, who arrived in 1883. He built a cabin on the banks of the river. In 1886, John Wesley Powell discovered gold near today's downtown Enid and named it for him, giving rise to one of its most famous slogans: "Grisly prospecting but no discovery made". The town started as just a few hundred people and quickly grew into an important center for coal mining and shipping. In 1911, local rancher Frank Pritchard donated land to build a city hall and other buildings. The city gained notoriety when it became home toOklahoma's first black schoolteacher, Lula Caldwell-King. In 1916, Enid hosted World War I's largest peace parade with more than 100 thousand people attending; afterwards, it emerged as one of America's leading munitions manufacturing centers. During World War II, Enid played an important role in providing food for military camps throughout the country while also producing rubber products and aluminum cans; during peacetime, many businesses closed down due to lack of business opportunities after the war ended. After years of economic decline following World War II, industrial production stopped entirely between 1951 and 1957 due to technological advances that made manufacturing much more automated than it had ever been before; this has led some residents to call Enid "the last great American town". However, despite several attempts by developers over the years to revive downtown Enid with new development (most notably through efforts by Mayor Glenn Beattie), nothing came of these plans until 2003 when businessman Jeff Bagwell purchased about half of downtown from its previous owner for $2 million dollars ($ as of 2019). He immediately began working on developing what would become known as Midtown; initial results were mixed but have since turned positive with renewed sparkle given recent investment by Arts District Initiative LLC., which includes events space such as an art museum/gallery/gallery retail complex called Midtown Gallery & Event Center (MGGE) along Main Street SE; restaurant developments including Parkvantage steakhouse chain which opened up shop inside MGGE in late 2017 followed by other restaurants such as TGIF spotlights nightlife scene across from hotel Ballpark en route from airport Reynoldsburg Rd.; office park developments including One Portfolio Place - formerly known as Bicentennial Tower - north side off US 75 just east of I-40 Exit 2206A south side off I-40 exit 2206B east side off I-40 exit 2222; single family homes going up at rates ranging from low end around $60K all way up into high end around $300K or more (many times exceeding skyrocketing prices seen previously Downtown). With growth like this coming not only Downtown but also Midtown areas surrounding Ballpark creating pockets where you can find 2 or 3 types housing sitting right next door each other without having to go very far away...you really begin understand how colloquially nicknamed 'Midtown' may have come about if you've lived here your whole life!

Enid, Oklahoma is a small city in Pruitt County, Oklahoma and the seat of the county. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1907 by Enid citizens John Fenton and his wife Mabel and named after then-Governor of Oklahoma, Enid Ladd Richardson. The townsite was located on what is now State Road 236. In 1912, Wichita Falls oilman H C Wallace donated land to create a town south of Enid on Brushy Creek. This site became known as Wichita Falls South. When Wichita Falls South merged with Enid in 1920 to form the present-day city, it retained its name but changed its geographic location to be within Pruitt County limits. In 1933, when McAlester City (now Muskogee) was established east of Tulsa and west of Enid along US 362, residents of McAlesterSouth voted to secede from that city because they were not happy with its annexation by Tulsa into the new municipality without their consent or notification. They re-established themselves as the town of McAlester within Enid limits in 1934 and continue to do so today. A plaque entitled "The Unincorporated Town Of McAlester" still stands outside the old high school building which served as their municipal center until 1956 when that building was replaced by an annex building onsite for McAlesterCity Hall which remains today as one of downtown's most noticeable landmarks; also home to local government agencies such as fire departments and libraries.) In 1954, following enactment of law providing for equal treatment among all Oklahomans under federal jurisdiction regardless of race or national origin (passed during President Franklin D Roosevelt's New Deal), McAlestersouth seceded from Tulsa again claiming protection under that law rather than comply with court rulings granting official recognition thereto from other cities within her boundaries - actions which ultimately led to her eventual incorporation into Tulsa proper upon ratification thereof by both jurisdictions' legislatures in 1959 pursuant to Oklahoman Local Option Act No 718 (Purdue University Law Review 70:394). Ever since then, en masse each successive version/edition/revision/creation thereof oftentimes refers informally herein simply as "Tulsa," though technically true reference should doubtless be more properly "Oklahoma City."
