Coffee was then exported to India and Southeast Asia before reaching America in the early 1800s. In Oklahoma City, coffee began being roasted and sold at local cafes in the 1920s. The first Starbucks opened its doors in 1987 in a small shopping center on East Union Street. Over time, other coffee shops have opened throughout the city, including Blue Bottle Coffee, Dutch Bros., and La Colombe. Today, Oklahomans enjoy fresh roasted coffee from many different sources including Dunkin’ Donuts, Peet’s Coffee & Tea Co., Starbucks*, Dutch Bros.* Café Bazaar*, and La Colombe*. The coffee industry in Oklahoma City, OK began with a small family-owned business in the early 1920s. The coffee was roasted and ground by C.H. Kresser and Sons until 1938. In that year, the business was bought by the Coffee Association of America (CAA). The Kresser family continued to operate the company until it closed its doors in 1984. In 1992, Bob's Coffee opened its doors in downtown Oklahoma City as one of the first Starbucks restaurants in the United States. In 2000, Dunkin' Donuts announced plans to open a store in downtown Oklahoma City. That same year, Starbucks announced plans to open another location within walking distance of both Bob's Coffee and Dunkin' Donuts locations on First Avenue South. In 2006, Starbucks added an additional location on Pershing Road near OSU University campus serving students attending OU Campus shuttle buses from their dormitories into campus buildings during weekday morning hours. That same year also saw the opening of World Market Tulsa which served as an anchor for the shopping district around that time surrounded by dining options such as Five Pointse Cinemas - now known as Regal cinemas - AMC theaters - now known as movie theaters - WellnessQuest health club - and other businesses
